The world will be watching. And we can lead by example. |

The silver lining in the Times Square bombing? I mean, other than the fact it didn't go off?
We have a suspect in custody who is a U.S. citizen. This means he entered the U.S. legal system this morning. He was, or will be soon, given counsel. Someone to defend him.
We do that here.
A nation of laws, we like to call ourselves. We elected a Constitutional scholar, for crying out loud.
Our exam begins today. Mr. President, please use every resource to ensure we exceed the world's expectations.

3. And he may be an important test case... |
|
.... since he CANNOT be tried in a war tribunal and MUST be tried in criminal court (since he is a citizen.)
We will show that we can give him a speedy and fair trial, IN New York City and, if convicted, justice can be meted out.
You know .... just like we do with all the white guys who try to blow us up. ;)

4. Considering that this guy is a suspected terrorist -- |
|
specifically a Pakistani-born American citizen suspected of an attempted terrorism plot, will New Yorkers, particularly Mayor Bloomberg, be afraid to try him in NY as they were with KSM?
Bloomberg recently argued that trying terrorists in NY would make them a target (seriously? cuz you're not already?), give them a platform to spew their radical agenda, tie up traffic (really? that's a good reason?) and a bunch of other bullshit reasons.
What will Bloomberg say now? Is he still scared or will he step up to the plate? I'm guessing the latter. And if the suspect was in fact working with operatives from Pakistan, why would the above-mentioned points not still be relevant (not that they ever were)?
