Edited on Wed May-05-10 05:36 PM by flpoljunkie
(What do you mean by 'found to provide support to a terrorist organization,' Senator Lieberman?)
Lieberman To Introduce Expatriation Act With Brown

Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) will introduce legislation tomorrow to strip the citizenship of someone found to provide support to a terrorist organization. He'll be joined by Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA), Rep. Jason Altmire (D-PA) and Rep. Charlie Dent (R -PA)

10. Yeah, I just hope the Dems around here in CT are smarter in 2012 then they were in 2006.
His polling numbers are abysmal right now. Hopefully they stay that way. Approval in the 30's.

3. "Schumer comes out against Lieberman's citizenship-stripping plan
Schumer comes out against Lieberman's citizenship-stripping plan

Okay, it turns out that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y) is not supporting Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman's new proposal to strip the citizenship of those who are involved with terror groups. In fact, he's coming out against it forcefully, saying it's likely unconstitutional and not a good way to fight terror.

Lieberman is an ass.

8. That's a relief.
This crap Joe Liberman is throwing at the wall hoping it'll stick is one of the ugliest things I've seen in a long time. It's troubling that the repugs are so full of hate that they would try to deny the very rights this country stands for.

I wish he'd just roll over and take the "R" after his name. It seems Lieberman doesn't have the best interest of the people in mind, only that rightwing.

5. Whats wrong with sending them to jail as American citizens?
The ideas these idiots come up with are mind boggling.

6. Is this done to preclude their being read their Miranda rights, as his good buddy McCain's suggested
We will have to see exactly what Lieberman is proposing. It is deeply concerning that he would strip someone of their citizenship when they arrested, without a trial, in order to avoid Mirandizing them. Shame on Lieberman, if this is what he is proposing.

9. American Anwar al-Awlaki is target for assassination. Where's his Miranda rights?
being an American citizen doesn't guarantee Miranda rights at all.

One of the biggest misconceptions out there is that you have to be US citizen to get Miranda rights. That's not true. Miranda applies even if you are not a citizen.

18. non-citizens have almost all the same rights as citizens
when it comes to things like due process, self incrimination, etc. The often repeated nonsense that constitutional protections apply only to citizens is just that: nonsense. Not that I support Lieberman's crap, that is just odious, and certainly unconstitutional.

7. It is time Joe Lieberman put his dress
clothes away and wore his everyday outfit. He already acts the clown; let him wear his clown suit and makeup. At least that would keep him honest. The clown shoes would look so good in his mouth.

This is McCarthyist crap. When the GOP regains the White House in however many years it takes, they'll simply designate any organization left of the KKK "terrorist groups".

20. This oughta set MA on fire.
Remember all those "independents" who voted for you, Scott?

Yeah, most independents in MA are Dem-leaners and don't like it when their Senators co-sponsor crap like this.

I was going to stick needles in my eyes, but the audio would be more painful.

Thanks in advance!

27. Our citizenship has always had an element of being conditional since the Patriot Act.
And I'm sure all Repubs and a few Dems will support this.

28. The Patriot Act has nothing remotely to do with "conditional" citizenship.
What Lieberman is proposing is moronic.

And said charity has some remote terrorism ties, then you may be stripped of your U.S. citizenship, correct?
