from the Hartford Courant for which they cited so much in the NYT piece has been laid off, and she can't remember where she got the Harvard swim team bit. She can't find her notes on it. Newspapers are going to become more and more unreliable going forward.

A local RW radio host here in Connecticut had a local newspaper editor on and said the times he had spoken with or heard Blumenthal speak, Blumenthal was very careful to say he did NOT serve in Vietnam... and, this was a RW radio host.

there is some ambiguity. Like most women of my generation, I did not serve in Vietnam, but I can see in a complex sentence saying "I learned in the Vietnam War" It would be a poorly designed sentence, but it really appears that among veterans who have seen him for three decades - they knew exactly what the story was. What he was saying was the same thing Kerry says all the time - of respecting the warriors even if you disagree with the war. There were many thing that Kerry used his service to say, this was one that his service added no additional credibility to.
