If this guy were a Republican, most of us would probably be calling for this guys head. The guy lied, he did not "mispeak." He was subtly padding his resume. Kind of like O'reilly claiming "I've been in combat."

Even when it is one of our guys, when they get caught they need to go. There are other hihgly electable Democrats in Ct.

1. I won't defend him
but I am pretty sure I am still going to vote for him. He's the best shot at a DEM keeping the seat.

3. " He was subtly padding his resume." What?
Save the lecture, this was a MSM/GOP hit.

6. And a cover up of the devestation to newspapers. The journalist who wrote the profile
from the Hartford Courant for which they cited so much in the NYT piece has been laid off, and she can't remember where she got the Harvard swim team bit. She can't find her notes on it. Then Slate runs with it WITHOUT CHECKING. I mean WOW. We are talking major incompetence and that was before the Great Recession. Newspapers are going to become more and more unreliable going forward.

4. Because it's not as cut & dry as people are saying.
And the NYT condemning him for not correcting newspapers in Conn. who REPEATEDLY made errors even when they had the facts in their archives is just lame. Yeah, Blumenthal is responsible for every error made in every rinky dink newspaper in Conn. Not newspaper editors.

Hillary only did it once, and had a hard time escaping it.

8. It's a bit of a rock and a hard place
It would be great if there was another Democrat that could step up, but there isn't. It was very wrong what he did, but the thought of Linda McMahon in the Senate is troubling also.

9. The strange thing is
A local RW radio host here in Connecticut had a local newspaper editor on and said the times he had spoken with or heard Blumenthal speak, Blumenthal was very careful to say he did NOT serve in Vietnam... and, this was a RW radio host.

11. Are you from CT...tell me where I can find another highly electable Dem here in CT.
Are we taking away my Rep, Chis Murphy with no clear backup for Nov.? Lamont is running for Gov, as he should. I guess there is Bysiewicz, now that she can't run for AG but she was a bit hurt in all the legal wrangling.
He made one misstatement and McMahon was desperate for anything to give her the upper hand as she her millions were not buying the seat so far.

14. Having seen the one video on tv in greater context
there is some ambiguity. Like most women of my generation, I did not serve in Vietnam, but I can see in a complex sentence saying "I learned in the Vietnam War" It would be a poorly designed sentence, but it really appears that among veterans who have seen him for three decades - they knew exactly what the story was. What he was saying was the same thing Kerry says all the time - of respecting the warriors even if you disagree with the war. There were many thing that Kerry used his service to say, this was one that his service added no additional credibility to.
