(R) Souder resignation info - Indiana 3rd District
Apparently, Allen County Republican Party Chair, Steve Shine and other Republican leaders in the 3rd District were aware of allegations as much as 6 months ago. They didn't do anything about it.

As a result, a special election will be needed to fill the unexpired term. Each of the 8 counties in the 3rd District will have to allocate finances and resources to conduct a special election.

1. 2 things I found funny
1)the reporter was creeped out *live* on the teevee, saying "these affairs took place in nearby state parks"(ewwww)
&
2)msm would report it with the words on the screen: "resigning because of affair with a FEMALE staffer" (aka, this ain't a mark foley-kinda thing)

Maybe my sense of humor is twisted by my Gulf Disaster anger & sadness.:evilfrown:

2. His fans should not cry for Souder. He may well be signed on to become
the promotional voice for OFF! insect repellent.

5. It would be better if Souder was the stand in for the bug
And when he touches someone on the arm that person would then spray Off on him.

11. At least he resigned. The Indiana Republican delegation is a bunch
of nitwits and kooks and thieves and monster, in some cases, several of those in one person.

And at least two of them want to be president -- MIke Pence and Gov. Daniels.

Yuck City.

3. It's not very scandalous.
In the realm of scandal, cheating with an adult aide of the opposite sex is pretty low on the scandal scale.

6. Except that they were both married

For some reason the media is overlooking that little tidbit.

8. I knew he was.
I didn't know about her. The hypocrisy angle makes it a pretty entertaining story too. :D

9. having nothing to do with anyone's marital status, it's completely inappropriate
having a sexual relationship with an employee is immoral, stupid, and usually puts your company at risk of lawsuit or other actions.
it also has an effect on all other employees who might feel that the selected employee is being treated better.

the same dynamics happen in the public sector, although i don't know about what civil liabilities are involved, if any. i imagine congress exempted themselves from such liability.

12. I think the scandalous bit is hitting it hard in the right places.
People here are for the most part very upset about this bombshell on more than one level. If one poll is any indication only about 6% of those here support Souder.

In addition, the husband of the mistress is a County Commissioner in Kosciusko County. It has a population of about 76,000 and the Jackson's live in a town with a population of about 3000. There is no avoiding this unless Brad Jackson resigns and they both move several counties away. It would also mean closing their construction business down.

I wonder if Mary Kay Cosmetics will force Tracy to give up her consultant position?

7. Do we have a chance there?

The fact that the repugs turned a blind eye to this should turn off many of the voters (especially the
family values ones) :-)

13. Yes we do. We had a chance even before this happen but now even more so.
But it will still require a lot of hard work.

This is now an open seat with Dr Tom Hayhurst the presumed nominee for the remaining term as well as the official candidate for the fall election. While the Republicans now have to start totally from scratch and there are a whole slew of wannabees that are going to throw their hat in. Some that didn't for the primary because they wouldn't go against Souder. The primary was a hard fought primary that Souder had not experienced in a while which had to drain his campaign of funds. The main challenger also spent a lot for the primary. In addition, there was probably some major friction between the two camps. And likely to be even more when they have the special election.

Let's Go Blue!!

14. Republican adultery: the real threat to marriage
Cenk did an excellent job on this: if your hobby is telling people that gay marriage endangers "traditional" marriage, don't endanger your own marriage by cheating on your wife.
