*gulp*: Blumenthal leads shrinks to three points in CT
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/05/19/blumenthals_lead_shrinks_in_connecticut.html

A new Rasmussen survey in Connecticut finds Richard Blumenthal (D) just three points ahead of Linda McMahon (R) in the U.S. Senate race, 48% to 45%. Two weeks ago, he led by 13 points.

Blumenthal leads Rob Simmons by 11 points, 50% to 39%. Two weeks ago, he led by 23 points.

Hopefully just a minor speedbump.

2. Oh, it was getting to be a tight race. It will be very close now
after everything that went down. Is he still the best person out there that we have? That is the question. I think he can overcome the Vietnam thing but McMahon has lots of money and is using it. As AG, he was not campaigning yet.

5. They have the Democratic convention this weekend.
I think they should go ahead and have a Dem primary so that they can see how much his in-party base has erroded and let the Dem primary voters off his candidacy before the general if that is their inclination

I'm starting to see him like Martha Coakley who killed herself off with the Curt Schilling comment and the one one about "you want me to stand outside of Fenway and shake hands?" Different quotes and situations, but once a candidate starts to be defined by something negative of their own creatrion, it becomes very hard to shake.

I said Blumenthal should have issued an unwavering apology and he didn't - he waffled. People will forgive if there is confession and remorse and move beyond it, but they won't forgive without that.

7. Actually, this poll is not that bad. It is Rasmussen and he still has
a tiny lead. He has barely campaigned. And there is no one else running in the primary but Merrick Alpert and no one knows who he is.

6. Ha. This is great news.

Even in the hot throws of all the smears and all the hyperventilating-ly negative media publicity, he still leads the gNOp candidates in a Republican er... Rasmussen poll.

Blumenthal will stick it out. And he will win in November. Sorry.

and I think Blumenthal's numbers will be up again.

9. Conn. Dems need to have a Plan B.
Plus, won't this election end up being about uncovering new instances of describing his military service? That's what worries me. If this was a one off, then fine. But if every other week, something new is revealed, that is a disaster.

10. I agree
You have to figure that they have something (or more then one thing) even better, as far as they are concerned, in reserve. Why else waste this so far out from the election? I'd think this is something you would save until about 6-8 weeks from the election.

11. OTOH, I just listened to a local NPR station in CT on line and all these
vets were calling in defending Blumenthal. They didn't sound like hacks either. They sounded like regular guys.

stays on.

15. Too early to tell.
6 months out is a life time. They would have done better to wait until October 15th to say something.
