There are teabaggers in Israel! Who knew?!

Israeli Activists Protest Bar Mitzvah for Rahm Emanuel's Son
By SIMON MCGREGOR-WOOD
JERUSALEM, May 19, 2010

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's plan to take his son, Zach, to Jerusalem's famous Western Wall for his Jewish coming-of-age ritual appeared to have run into serious trouble.

Two notorious, right-wing Jewish activists got wind of the bar mitzvah trip, due to take place next week, and warned Emanuel they would "blow up" the celebration. They accuse Emanuel of being behind President Obama's tough stance against Jewish settlements in occupied territory.

Itamar Ben Gvir and Baruch Marzel wrote to Emanual: "We promise to accompany your son's bar mitzvah events in Israel, we will make sure to receive you as you deserve to be received ... with catcalls and disgust."

1. Sins of the father
I don't much like the sins of the father being visited on the son. It's the SON's Bar Mitzvah, not his.

7. what sins?
so the obama admin "trying" not to give israel a license to do any and everything they want is a sin in your book.

8. Way before that
From my stand point, many sins predate this administration.

But furthermore, in this particular case, the sins would be defined by those doing the protesting.

You may note, I'm not there.

11. what are rahm's sins toward israel as these extreme right wingers see it?
you say the sins of the father shouldn't be visited on the son and this would be appropriate if they were protesting rahm because he's the sinner, not the son. i want you to tell me how he sinned against israel. you brought up this angle.

13. What are their complaints?
Edited on Wed May-19-10 12:47 PM by zipplewrath
These will sound familiar to you.

They believe Rahm is responsible for pulling Obama away from Israel and causing the current frictions.

Even if true, it would seem inappropriate for them to be protesting the sons Bar Mitzvah.

14. they are lunatics and just because lunatics don't agree with you
doesn't mean you're the one that has sinned. so if birthers start picketing the obama girls school your response will be that obama's sins shouldn't be visited it upon his daughters as if some lunatics believing he's a foreign impostor is a sin on his part.

there is no sin so the saying you decided to post is completely irrelevant to this situation.

19. What the heck are you talking about?
My entire point was that screwing around with the kids is no way to address your political issues with the parents.

Do you disagree with that?

23. Maybe you should just read more carefully
What I obviously was suggesting was that politics should end at the "childrens edge", to quote another metaphor.

22. In what sense
Remembering that I was using a metaphor, what should I walk back? I didn't realize it was controversial to suggest that children shouldn't be the targets of political protests against their parents. I know this place would go bat shit crazy if anyone did it to Sasha or Melia.

4. He should do it anyway as a learning experience for his son.
The kid will learn the complexity of Judaism and Zionism that can't be better demonstrated.

21. I like this idea.
It would be an eye-opener for the son, and possibly for the father. Rahm needs it. More American Jewry should be exposed to the ugliness on the Right in Israel.

6. Marzel and Ben-Gvir are fringe Kahanists
Marzel, as I recall, used to lead the Kach party before it got banned. These are the kind of people who each year celebrate the anniversary of Baruch Goldstein's shooting rampage. Sick people.

24. When Rahm Emanuel isn't even right wing enough for you
that's pretty fucked up. I'm assuming NuttyYahoo (no fan of him either) will put a leash on these assclowns. I'm sure Rahm and his family won't be in any danger. Well, at least outside of that which is a typical day in the Middle East anyway.

Just because Rahm Emanuel was talking about you, it doesn't mean he was talking about the base of the Democratic party.

36. I Wonder if These Two Idiots Realize that Rahm Has Secret Service Protection?
and any attempt to disrupt anything is not going to go well for them.

I would suggest that they find another way to state their grievances rather than disrupt a young man's bar mitzvah because they disagree with his father and his father's boss political positions...
