Is This Really a Republican Year?

First Read: "Here's another lesson we learned from last night: A good campaign can overcome a tough political environment. In the only contest pitting a Democrat against a Republican, Mark Critz (D) defeated Tim Burns (R) in the special congressional election to replace the late Rep. Jack Murtha (D) in Pennsylvania. As we've pointed out, this isn't a good sign for the GOP in its quest to take back the House in November. Why? Because this was a race that Republicans -- in this kind of political environment -- should have been able to win. Yes, Democrats outnumber Republicans in the district. And, yes, the Dem turnout in the competitive Sestak-vs.-Specter primary helped Critz (though the statewide Dem turnout wasn't overly impressive). But this was the only congressional district in the country that John Kerry won in '04 but Obama lost in '08, meaning that it was ripe for the picking."

"Remember, back in 1994, Republicans were the ones winning House special elections. But can this be '94 all over again if the Democrats are the ones winning these things -- four straight this cycle (PA-12, NY-23, CA-10, NY-20) and seven since 2008 (IL-14, MS-1, LA-6). By the way, there was a ton of finger-pointing among House Republicans after they lost the NY-23 special late last year; it could be worse internally after last night."

:nopity:

1. This so-called "tough political climate" (for Dems) is media created...
in collusion with the Republicans. Yes, it's working a little. But not like we're supposed to believe.

That's what I think.

2. So, the folks at First Read are still "learning lessons"...
about things that have been evident for at least a few months, now. I'm glad that the fluff and puff that is their output isn't the way things really are. As "the Party of No", Republicans are not going to be able to carry the day in any big-picture way.

3. The media keeps saying it is BUT
it simply isn't true.

The Dems are making a lot more gains than the media would lead the sheeple to believe. WE have had amazing results in an awful lot of special elections and even in these primaries.

We are winning quietly and soundly -- and from everything that I am seeing the tea party may be loud, but they aren't really winning anything.

5. I Remember Bush's First Mid Term
The media was predicting Republican losses and there was actually gains....the story after wards was
because Bush nationalized the midterms.

The media can't say they don't know. When it comes down to it most of these races are local. The candidate
that appeals to the most people wins. I think there will be a LOT less gains then the media is predicting.

made sure there were no republicon losses..it squelched everything Dem and promoted facism. That's when I cancelled my cable "news"..never to return.

12. There's reason to be hopeful that the blue team will put in a very
good showing.

We just know the Republicans would be crowing from the rooftops today had they won the PA-12th race -- and they were just CERTAIN they would, too.

Well, they didn't.

Recommended.
