Rand Paul will play well in Kentucky
Edited on Thu May-20-10 05:10 PM by rhombus
I hate to say this, but in Kentucky, Paul will get more support as a result of his statements on the Civil Rights act. Where he might trip up though is on his opposition to the Americans with Disabilities act. To pick on people with disabilities is a step too much even for Kentucky.

7. I hope you're correct, but I'm not gonna get complacent.
And I don't think anyone should assume this. If we do underestimate the competition - and/or the knuckle-dragger/teabagger contingent, we deserve to have our asses handed to us.

3. So you are saying his racist views on the Civil Rights act will be more receptive than
his opposition to Americans with Disabilities in Kentucky?

If true, that doesn't say very nice things about Kentucky

4. I predict that they will reject R. Paul. They might have some
philosophical problems when it comes to race issues but they aren't crazy, imo.

I don't know where you live, but I live in KY, and I find your comments to be despicable. To accuse an entire state of being racist, as I have seen happen on this site all day, is ludicrous. The reality is that the attempt to make the citizens of one state out as being racist or unintelligent, only illustrates one thing. It brings to light how narrow minded, and uninformed the people are, who make those statements. However, if it makes you feel better to think of yourself as superior, then you just go ahead. I frankly don't care if you look like a fool.

8. McCain won easily in Kentucky.
Is the entire state racist? No.

Are the majority of the voters? Yes.

9. No...
Just because someone voted for McCain, even against Obama is not cause for calling people racist.

10. Yes, it is.
The only reason people had to vote McCain was racism.

Obama was clearly a better candidate when it came to all valid issues.

11. So....since a group of people....
just burned Obama in effegy in Wisconsin, then based on your reasoning ability...that makes all of Wisconsin racist.

Yeah...right...

No, it isn't.

12. Did the majority of Wisconsin vote for burning Obama in effigy?
Because then you'd have a valid comparison with Kentucky.

16. Bullshit, total bullshit
There were plenty of people who voted McCain that were not racist at all. My very pro-life, anti-abortion aunt did, and there's not a racist bone in her body. Many non-racist gun owners voted McCain because he had a better record on opposing gun-control. Finally, many greedy wealthy people voted McCain because of his tax cuts for the rich. Lots of these folks only care about the color green.

14. Obama got more votes than Gore or Kerry got here
The percentage adds up to about the same for all three, Kerry got 2% less the Gore and Obama, Obama got a tiny sliver more than Gore's percentage.

20. I'm sorry you've had to read that today
I know there are good, progressive people all over this country, some living in states where some dispicable people get elected (I'm still pissed Al D'Mato was elected senator in New York). Do you think Paul can get elected there? Are there many libertarians in KY? What do you think are effective arguments against him? I'm way more interested in what progressives in KY have to say - how do we beat this guy?

giving answers out of touch with the mainstream. Let's hear his views on ADA, Social Security, Medicare, ...

13. The middle of the country hates pompous liberalism.
The moderates hate it as well, which will cause liberalism to seem less appealing. The idea that we/Kentuckians are all stupid, racist, hicks, needs to stop being spread if we want liberalism to grow away from just the coasts.

15. Kind of a broad brush statement in an effort to condemn a broad brush
statement, don't you think?

The idea that the middle of the country hates liberalism is no more true that the idea that all Kentuckian are stupid, racist and hicks. There are plenty of people in the middle of the country who do not hate liberals and do not view them as pompous. A great many people in the middle of the country have benefited greatly from the causes liberals have championed. Trust me, many many of those people do not hate them.

17. Pompous liberalism?
Edited on Fri May-21-10 12:24 AM by FrenchieCat
What is that? and who does that?

I care about American individual Rights and Freedoms....
all Americans.

When some dumbass tells me that he believes that the owner of a company
can restrict my choices by deciding that my business isn't welcomed,
than I say to Rand Paul...you ain't no fucking American......
cause favoring a business owner's right to liberty
over an individual American's right to choose what business to frequent sucks ass.

In essence, he wants to take away my rights and give them to some company!

In otherwords, Mr. Paul is a pompous Facist pig ass.

18. He plays well with some. Mostly white, male, late boomers/early Xers
but I think hay can be made with his inherent weak spots on civil rights and the safety net. I doubt his views on Social Security have any universal popularity even here in the Commonwealth.

Conway can probably flirt around to Randroid's right on military issues as well, just enough to sew doubt if he'll 'fend Murika raht.
