Is Dora the Explorer an illegal immigrant?

Campaigners against a controversial new immigration law in the US state of Arizona have adopted a popular children's cartoon character as a symbol of their cause.

Dora the Explorer has taught millions of American children basic Spanish phrases on her Nickelodeon TV show.

But a doctored image on the internet now shows the cartoon heroine with a black eye in a police mugshot.

Her alleged crimes? Illegal border crossing and resisting arrest.

Several websites, including the influential Huffington Post, have run satirical stories describing Dora's capture by the immigration authorities.

One picture circulating on Facebook shows her vaulting over the fence on the US-Mexican border.

Ridiculous. No side should claim Dora. And this stupid idea that enforcing the law is because we want all Hispanic people to be expelled regardless of whether they have come here legally is nonsense.

Until we have a law rescinding the citizenship of people of Hispanic origin you can't claim this is against Hispanics.

15. Every law has it's different demographic of law breakers.

Most prostitutes are women. Most rapists are men. Most murderers are men. Most serial killers are white. These are not laws aimed at a particular race or sex or demographic. But when the law breaking is rampant then the only way to contain it is active enforcement.

So if we see there is a lot of speeding we will have more speed traps. When we expect more drunken driving we put driving checkpoints. When we see firms putting together securities for the purpose of shorting it and selling it without disclosure then we send the SEC in to investigate.

When we realize minerals management gas been lax in their oversight we start reviewing their permitting and safety measures.

When we see problems with violations that is when we enforce laws, not when we decide to further ignore the lawbreaking and the lawbreakers.

6. Except that, in Arizona, I can be jailed if I don't produce my US passport.

I'm an American, born here, descended from several generations of US citizens on both sides of my family, but, if an Arizona cop thinks I don't look right, I could be put in jail until I can prove that I have a right to be here.

It just seems fundamentally wrong for an American to have to carry a passport while still in America, in order to stay out of jail.
