"Specter Escorts Sestak to Democratic Lunch"
THIS is one of the reasons we can't get much done in DC IMO. THIS .... civility .... is becoming a lost art.

Specter Escorts Sestak to Democratic Lunch

Senator Arlen Specter is a politician who detests losing but he made a magnanimous gesture on Tuesday to Representative Joe Sestak, the man who defeated him in last week’s Democratic Senate primary in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Specter, who was bruised enough by his loss to miss some Senate votes, introduced his recent foe to Senate Democrats at their weekly lunch.

It was the first time that Senator Harry Reid, the majority leader, and no doubt other lawmakers had met or heard from Mr. Sestak.

“Wonderful presentation,” said Mr. Reid about the meeting.

Mr. Reid did say there were no questions or discussion about Mr. Sestak’s earlier account that the White House had proffered an administration job should he choose not to challenge Mr. Specter – a claim that is now dogging Democrats as they try to hold on to the seat in Pennsylvania.

The only job Mr. Sestak’s potential future colleagues were interested in was the one he is trying to fill in November.

“There were no questions raised, other than a lot of support,” Mr. Reid said of Mr. Sestak. “He is a man who has spent 31 years in the Navy doing a lot of things that only someone in the Navy could do. We’re very proud of the work that he’s done.”

A visit to the Senate lunch is a political rite for candidates but Democrats would not have welcomed Mr. Sestak previously since he was taking on one of their own. That’s all water under the bridge now.

4. My guess is that he finally realizes that retirement might not be so bad at his age.
Regardless, thanks Specter for not being a typical Republican style asshole in defeat.

3. I do have to say, Specter is showing himself to not be a total douchebag here.
I dare say he is being very civil to Sestak since he was defeated.
