Obama ends his news conference today saying that he is responsible |
|
This is a theme of his presidency.
I don't always agree with his decisions as he has also wished he'd made different decisions here and there.
But his shoulders are large and his sense of responsibility is unique and much appreciated.

1. and it's this same belief.... |
|
.... that gives SOME of us the patience that we have with him. It's important to keep that mind while reading DU. ;)

3. The minute it becomes a criminal investigation all cooperation goes out the window |
|
so we need to stop this leak before considering that issue.

10. Who cares about their "cooperation". Seize their structure and put it under US command |
|
turn their US operations over to a competitor if need be but playing cat and mouse politics with BP is not a winning hand. Fuck around too much and Obama gets pulled into the undertow as the USS BP goes down to Davey Jones' locker.

11. If you ever dealt with complex equipment and operations |
|
Edited on Thu May-27-10 02:24 PM by NJmaverick
you would understand just how unworkable your plan would be. Like it or not, the expertize needed to deal (work the equipment and understand the systems in place) with this crisis works for BP. There are not super genius oil leak stoppers just hanging around waiting to be called to take over the leak. Since the people and equipment needed to stop this leak are under the employ of BP the smart thing to do is stop the leak THEN investigate.

17. maybe, but BP isn't the only game in town, and you know it. They aren't using new tech, rather 30yr |
|
old tech. Let's not act like there's some amazing BP wizard that Exxon doesn't have.
Honestly!

13. But "they" are the only ones who know how to solve this mess. |
|
Seizing control and filing charges would end what little progress we see. Nobody in the administration knows how to fix this mess, other than loudly tell the folks at BP to work harder and work faster. After the leak is plugged, THEN heads can and may roll, but until then we need those heads in working order so that they can figure out how to fix it.

15. While I understand it is not easy, but we can work out plea deals with American BP workers with |
|
more of an allegiance to their country than they'll have to some foreign corporation. But Holder, a former oil lawyer isn't gonna do that, so maybe we circle some tankers, since BP refuses to listen to the EPA.

14. "When Bush said it, it meant NOTHING. " |

Because Bush couldn't admit he made a mistake. He was asked point blank and couldn't think of one thing.
Bush: Yeah, sure it's my responsibility...what mistake?

18. Is it appreciated? Really? |
|
Do you really appreciate the crap that has been heaped upon this one man from the right and the left? Do you really understand that placing it all on one person detracts from laying the blame where it is deserved and does not expedite solutions. By the time everyone is done with this political game, we will be sitting here wondering why the Rs own the keys to the kingdom.
