CA-Sen: Carly Fiorina's priorities

CA-Sen: Carly Fiorina's priorities

by Jed Lewison

In case you haven't heard about Carly Fiorina's hot mic moment yesterday in which she ridiculed Barbara Boxer's hairstyle (she said: "God, what is that hair...soooooo yesterday"), here it is:

<...>

Obviously, that hot mic moment doesn't deliver a flattering portrait of Carly Fiorina's personal character, but it might not have been her biggest gaffe of the day. Think Progress:

HOST: Well, let me ask you this. If you were still the CEO at Hewlett Packard and the figures said you had to cut 10,000 jobs today, would you do it as a responsible CEO?

FIORINA: Of course. And by the way, having managed HP through the worst technology recession in 25 years and nevertheless doubled the size of that company from $44 billion to $88 billion, I know what every responsible family and every responsible business in California knows. That sometimes in tough times you have to make tough choices. And that’s what families and businesses are doing all over California right now.

So in Carly Fiorina's world, Barbara Boxer should really do something about her hair (it's "soooo yesterday") and there's nothing wrong with firing 10,000 workers in the blink of an eye ("of course!"). I guess we should at least give Fiorina this much: she's being honest about her priorities.

1. I sure hope the people of CA won't kick out a responsible Senator like Boxer
for some twit like this--same goes for the Governors race--hopefully the people of CA won't allow her to buy that seat.

2. It wouldn't bother her one bit. She has millions. To hell with those less economically fortunate.
She is a danger not only to California, but to the country if she were a senator. But that won't happen.

5. "Downsizing" almost ruined HP. They can't stand her, that tells me all I need to know.

6. I thought the Sean Hannity/Meg Whitman comment was better than the Boxer
remark.

Both were catty, but seeing her roll her eyes and diss Hannity? Pricelss.

Too bad the media has decided not to cover that remark.

7. Ah, I see Carly's rewriting her history at HP to make it good for her.

The truth (all verifiable with a little research):

1.) She decided to merge HP and Compaq against the vehement disapproval of the grandson of one of the company's (HP) founders. He tried a shareholder revolt to stop her. It failed, but it signaled that a lot of people weren't happy about it.

2.) She was ousted in February 2005 by the board of directors. It wasn't her choice. She was FORCED to resign. Unfortunately, she was given a $40 million golden parachute. They paid her to leave and stop wrecking the company.

3.) When she began as CEO in late 1999, HP's stock price was $52 per share. When she was ousted, it was $21 per share, a 60% drop. The day after she was ousted, the share price went up to $26 per share, 25% increase.

11. Your item 3) is somewhat misleading
because the tech stocks as a group had a monster crash after 2000.
Nasdaq dropped from 5000 to near 1200. HP was a tech stock and
could not escape the carnage. Compared to the group of tech stocks,
HP actually did lot better.

Ask me because I had stocks in Nasdaq during that period, and lost
3/4 of my capital in tech stocks.

8. Carly carried the state (at least among Repub. voters)
but she lost to Campbell in a few interesting counties - San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz. Guess where HP is based and had (and still has) a lot of employees. Silicon Valley is essentially Santa Clara county, Santa Cruz and San Mateo are adjacent. Fiorina lives in Santa Clara county. There's not much respect for here in these parts.

9. Yes, what you saw unfold is true.
Carly is reviled in these parts.

Now hopefully Boxer will continue her effective ads about Carly - and bury Carly's hope to be our next Senator.

12. Catty Fightorina. And she's the one who's putting another woman down for her hairdo?

She should talk - has she looked in the mirror lately?

I hope guerrilla activists follow her around at campaign appearances, meowing loudly.

SHEESH republi-CON women are nothing but Mean Girls.
