President Obama welcomes Senate defeat of EPA measure

President Barack Obama welcomed a Senate vote on Thursday to kill legislation that would have prevented the Environmental Protection Agency from imposing carbon dioxide-reduction controls next year.

In a procedural vote, the Senate blocked the bill offered by Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski by a tally of 53 to 47.

"Today's vote is yet another reminder of the urgent need to pass legislation that would help America transition to a 21st century clean energy economy that would create jobs, strengthen our national security, and protect our environment for our children," Obama said in a statement.

I commend the Senate for rejecting the resolution put forward by Senator Murkowski, which would have increased our dependence on oil by blocking efforts to cut the harmful pollution that contributes to climate change. Today's vote is yet another reminder of the urgent need to pass legislation that would help America transition to a 21st century clean energy economy that would create jobs, strengthen our national security, and protect our environment for our children. Today, the Senate chose to move America forward, towards that clean energy economy – not backward to the same failed policies that have left our nation increasingly dependent on foreign oil.

2. Yes indeed.
Props to the other Senator from Alaska - Mark Begich - for doing the sane thing and voting "NO".

3. That's nice. We should all welcome the defeat of the Mukowski Resolution
Now, how does the President feel about his gal Blanche Lincoln being a co-sponsor?
