GREAT NEWS: C-SPAN Viewer Reaction to the Presidential Address linked below.
I don't know how Obama is able to turn the waters like this. This is in regards to the 20 Billion dollars + we're going to be getting from BP and all of the other payments ahead. A lot of people know that Obama has done the best he can in a shitty situation and secondly that he's been trying. For those who don't know...As I said in an earlier post---The Coast Guard briefings are really informative---since they're hands on. While you have pundits who are not hands on but listening to second hand information.

If he successfully gets the oil to stop gushing this month with the new stuff he(and Admiral Thad Allen) said BP and other nations will be sending in to help. I would be in awe.

While the pundits say Obama failed---or at least a good number did. And many on DU saw this as a platform to spew their own personal dislike---yes because many of it was personal. Except for some (sacarat I do appreciate your posts :pals:) with legitimate concerns that I share. The few American callers I heard on C-Span really made me see that Obama's speech/brief (whatever you want to call it) went through very well.

Last night the call-in session on C-Span was a shock. Here is my post on that: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x340188

Last night I did not have the calls link and I've been waiting several hour for C-Span to upload that video so the people on DU can get a look at what some of the American people think.

Keep in mind---C-Span doesn't get the sharpest knives in the box calling in, most of the time their racist, and sadly---majority hate ANYTHING this President does. I mean C-SPAN, for anyone who's sat through those call sessions---it's a nightmare to listen to. However, last night was an outright shock. My earlier post was my word of mouth and now I just want to give you guys the chance to hear them for yourself.

I had someone say something very discouraging about the post. Claiming that I was "hunting for people who thought like me." I'm pretty known around here for being rather supportive of the President. And C-SPAN has a reputation as I said of being far from supportive and outright racist in their callers. Jon Stewart gave testament to this on his show. In any event, I want to reiterate---these are AMERICAN CITIZENS calling in. NOT PUNDITS!

Here is the Viewer Reaction to the Presidential Address, that I spoke about yesterday. This is directly after his speech:

http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/294074-101 <---You'll notice a mix of calls. Some of the information---like the lady about Obama rejcting Holland's help...I'm like she needs to watch the Coast Guards briefing.

Coast Guard Briefings here (some of them):

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x340401#340480

Anyway I hope this shows that even if Obama's speech failed for many pundits. For the American people, it didn't fail for most of them. And when I see it coming out of C-SPAN of all places, what I like to call the "pustule of hate calls" , I figured he did something good.

Anyway...thanks Mr. President, you're doing a good job in a shitty situation.

1. Thank you for doing all this research on the c-span callers
last night, vabrella!

That's who the President was talking to..the American People and specifically those affected the most by the tragedy to calm their fears and in the process he calmed mine for them.

2. Yup...I agree. You're welcome by the way. He wasn't talking to the pundits or commentators.
He was delivering a brief message to keep us up to date.

6. Vaberella THANK YOU!
These are the kind of posts that I have come to love DU for.

I listened to C-Span myself, and with the exception of a few callers, it seemed very positive. Progressive radio has been off the hook and VERY hard to listen to today. As a result, I believe from what happened on the M$M last night, it has become an Obama hatefest.

Thank goodness for C-Span, and people like you willing to do the heavy research.

7. I listened to the C-span call-in session last night and support for the President was obvious.
When I turned back to cable and network coverage, I was stunned by the pundits "slash and burn" rhetoric. Their responses sounded pre-planned... as well as being consistently negative. There was quite a contrast.

8. I turned on the MSNBC coverage for literally 3 minutes.
I was stunned, and it reconfirmed why I have watched things like this either directly from the White House site or on C-Span.

I am smart enough to know what I watch and listen to when it comes to this president.

11. Randi Rhodes is talking about this.
How the C-SPAN callers reactions to the speech were very different from the pundits.

She's saying WTF about the pundits reactions.

12. Who knows...wow Randi is on this. I guess she noticed it too. It's really weird.
I mean it's almost twilight zone. And it shows the massive disconnect between the pundits and the American people. It shows they are not representatives of the American people or qualified spokesmen/women. It goes that much further and makes you wonder why they even are given this sort of job.

13. I listened on the link you shared.
The calls were unusually supportive. I didn't much care for President Obama's delivery of the address but, maybe, like you said, it resonated with the American people.
