The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is holding a hearing entitled “The Role of BP in the Deepwater Horizon Explosion and Oil Spill” on Thursday, June 17, 2010, in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is examining what caused the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and the oil spill that continues to spread across the Gulf of Mexico.
Representative Henry Waxman said internal BP documents show that BP took “short cuts” that put people at risk and resulted in the Deepwater Horizon explosion because the well was behind schedule and over budget. The Subcommittee reviewed over 30,000 pages of BP documents. Waxman said a BP engineer called it a “nightmare well” and BP was warned of risks and ignored them. “BP cut corner after corner” to save a” million here and there.”
Republican Representative Joe Barton said he was ashamed of the “$20 billion shakedown” by the White House, however there is no question that BP is and fault but never-the-less apologized to BP for the “shakedown.”http://beforeitsnews.com/news/80/404/Congressman_Joe_Barton_Apologizes_to_BP_for_White_House_Shakedown.html
