The only thing we want to hear is the hole is plugged.
It was a nice speech.
Calling for blue ribbon commissions and long term study is fine... I guess.
But the live video feed of the leak has changed me.
Set against the horrible constantly running live video feed of the leaking oil,
Whatever gets said looks less important.

The Only Thing We Want To Hear Is The Hole Is Plugged.
Everything else is secondary.

people seriously cleaning up the beaches and water and treating the animals.

But the above the water line disaster is BECAUSE of the leaking a mile down.
So... first things first.

6. Since some loved Maddow's Fake President speech so much, I doubt that's what some want to hear
I wish I could tell you that the first development is that BP has capped the well, stopped the leak. They haven‘t. They can‘t. They don‘t know how. And no one else does either. Their best hope is a relief well, which poses its own risks and challenges and which, even in a best-case scenario, affords no relief until August.

So people need to stop kidding themselves that the gusher was ever something that was going to be stopped by Obama saying or doing anything beyond what he has already done.

Not plugging the hole. If you think like that, you have little vision.

14. The disruption to people's livelihood is extended each day
the leak continues.

I applaud the establishment of the fund. It is critical. But, it doesn't help address the cause of the problem. I don't see it as one or the other. We need to come at it from several directions. It is a multi-faceted problem.

It is the no.1 priority and always has been. But this poster seems to marginalize other successes to minimize the overall damage. As for stopping the oil, we all know there is no one who knows how to stop it and it seems their doing everything. Do you watch the coast guard briefings?

13. Focusing on half the battle means losing the overall effort
Straight line thinking allows much to slip. The oil already leaked must be contained/recovered. Sensitive areas need to be protected. Probably samples of species need to saved.

You can't afford to only focus on Germany when Japan and Italy are also in the mix.

46. For the last time-I'll make the key word big and bold:
Who is the "we" who thinks the ONLY thing we want to hear is the hole is plugged? You said in your OP, "The ONLY thing we want to hear is the hole is plugged." Do you get it yet? Of course we want the hole plugged-but I am NOT part of the "we" who ONLY wants to hear the hole is plugged. I ALSO want to hear that BP will be making everyone who has suffered from this WHOLE. I ALSO want to hear that BP won't be fighting those people in court. I ALSO want to hear that Obama got BP to put $20 billion in escrow with no cap. If you still don't understand what I've been saying, I give up.

23. That's about right
Unfortunately, Americans are about to get a harsh lesson in realities of physics and ecological economics. That may be one reason for the exhortation to prayer- divine intervention would be about the only saving grace.

Most people still haven't come to grips with the magnitude of this catastrophe- though my guess is that the President's not among those people. Must be pretty harsh to have to consider that one's own administration could have prevented this by delivering on the changes that it promised.

Just be lucky you don't watch Fox everyday. Then things would "look like" complete shit.

This is just a hunch, but I would bet that a majority of Americans aren't sitting in front of their cable news channels all day watching the split screen. That's just my opinion.
