Sounds Corny? So F*#*^g What? Hope is still better than None!
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 06:04 PM by FrenchieCat
This Op is addressed to those of us who will vote Democratic this upcoming election,
and still see real hope for a better country, and a brighter future for our children.

It is addressed to those who see clearly what this administration has accomplished,
as opposed to only seeing what it hasn't.

To those who care to see the half full viewpoint vs. the fully or half empty one.

This OP is dedicated to those who still choose to choose Hope over Cynicism.

It is to those willing to put out energy fighting with our side during the upcoming election,
with money, time, words, actions, or whatever!

I believe that with hard work and with dogged perseverance, we can still affect positive change.
Those of us still feeling hopeful and those of us working to elect Democrats this election season,
I want to thank us for doing doing exactly that; helping.....

I say bravo to our determination not to give up when that could be the easy way out! :applause:

Know that we are this country's best hope, because without us,
there is nothing awaiting us that we could be hopeful about.

Please believe that it is true that there is more strength in positive collective actions,
as opposed to collectively feeling dejected and defeated.

We should remind ourself that we have been and can continue fighting and gaining on some better policies (not all, not always the best that could be.....but better.....and that counts regardless of what you have heard).

Our fight during this election season will be an admirable one,
and certainly not one for the faint hearted,
and certainly not one for those who would choose to drown in individual hopelessness
laced with collective defeatism and cynical despair.
And since those who have been beaten down can no longer or are no longer willing to fight,
it becomes that much more important that we who can and are willing fight even harder.

Just think, if Americans believed that this country was hopelessly finished,
why would there be any reason left to fight? There wouldn't be.

However, if we have hope and if we fight hard enough,
we can get more of what we believe we need and want,
and then with each successive victory, no matter how small,
it should only spur us on to keep fighting for greater gain.
We indeed are once again the frontline soldiers!

So I suggest that having hope and fighting against those full of negativity,
is a truly worthy endeavor.....as it is a fact that it has been left up to us to make the difference,
because doing anything otherwise will only count as dead weight emanating negative karma,
something which hurts, not helps this country and our collective cause.

The Right basks in a gloomy environment where they secretly cheer whatever is going wrong in this country. In that way, they are the people who have given up and have settled in waiting only to be proven right that "there is no hope" and that "No we Can't" is an effective motto. That's why they make their fight personal; because to be proven right as an individual is a personal endeavor which requires no collective action, responsibility, or accountability. It only requires cheering for failure from the sidelines. It's the easy way out, for those who believe that being proven right is at least achievable, and that will give them that win that they desperately need in order to feel vindicated for not doing shit to help this country and our future and thinking their way has some redeeming value.

They see hope as wasted energy,
but they are wrong on that.

Having hope can see us through these hard times,
while having none will not.

That is the difference in the respective narratives of those with hope and those without;
and it is a substantial one with real diversely opposing consequences to the future of this country.

So although some will find this corny, we really can't afford to care as to what they say,
because sorry for disturbing those who don't; but fighting and siding with those who care the most
is the correct thing to do.

And SO yeah....Have Hope and Work hella hard!

1. The Right are basically sadists who want the American people to suffer
and they want to siphon off all the money they can find and don't care how they can get it.

My Repub neighbor said that people were born lazy and the only way you can succeed is to be an entrpeneur. This lady and her husband are out of work and have no healthcare! They complain about our leaves blowing into her yard in the fall and complain about our weeds in the summer! Grrr.

3. They see themselves as victims.......
but they don't know truly of what.
They don't see that the last 30 years
had a payback attached.....

and that one man without us fighting alongside
cannot do it on his own,
not against the strong forces aligned against us.

11. On his own? There is a Democratic Majority at the moment.
What we need is leadership with the cajones to stand up to the Blue Dogs and not roll over for politcal expedience. We have a lot of great Dems like Grayson and franken. We need more.We need no more appeasers.

that Obama is our president. The agenda of the right has become increasingly clear in their opposition to President Obama. What used to be hidden is now said out loud. We must continue to support this president. He is our best hope.

Thank you for 'getting it'.... thank you for being one of those who would rather see the shiny side of the coin rather than sink into the abyss of dismality so many feel.
It is present in the congress and his own people, as well as the regular population...like the feeling they can't effect real change so we are all going to hell in a handbasket no matter what..

I choose differently!

I am growing food in our silly little rental yard, and while it may not feed us through the seasons, it will be a step in the right direction and may even save me some money at the grocery store from time to time. I am driving less and using less energy, making what ever changes i can personally and within MY community so that we can all try to bring that forward in our town. baby steps...

we try and we try, and it isn't always easy or popular to 'fight the *good* fight'
But that can't mean we stop believing in some kind of better outcome. If I didn't hold that as an internal truth, what else would there be but to just give up...?

so yes, from the bottom of my heart, thanks for the corny! :applause: :toast:

But in their hearts, they know that doing nothing
and us losing will cost them much more than anything
they could ever say on the Internet against this op.....
The exception being those who support whatever the Right will bring
if they are successful in getting back in power..

I will never believe that not getting everything,
means the same as having gained nothing.
Not even close!

28. Well, if that's what helps them feel better,
how can we begrudge that? Of course what they might feel better about might
be so insignficant in the whole realm of policiy advances as the goal,
I don't even begin to understand the energy put into being defeatists when the energy
utilitized could be to help us win.....so we can go on debating issues some more,
with at least some hope to be heard after the election, instead of none at all.

Americans deserve Obama's policies over any rightwing policy that has been or will be proposed and is out there. Sure, we aren't going to get close to the whole lot that we want.....but that beats anything Republicans are offering any damn day! And I mean anything.

32. I agree, Frenchie
I do confess that I get discouraged at times, what with the M$M and their dishonest "reporting", and the repubs (and some Blue Dogs) trying to undercut a lot of what Obama wants. But if I let that discouragement get the better of me, I am of no use, and I might as well stand at the door and welcome more Republican rule in, and I just cannot do that!

42. If our hope is in craven politicians who fight for the wealthy and corporate interests
Edited on Sun Jun-27-10 09:54 PM by TheKentuckian
leaving the least of us behind in dreams of riches from global commerce and wars to provide poor people's resources for the plunder of the wealthy and leaving them with nothing but nightmarish memories of war and loved ones lost then that's a castle made of sand.

Our hopes lie in the indomitable spirit of our fellow citizens, faith in our ideals, clarity of vision to see through many deceptions, discerning minds, wisdom passed down through the ages, and our unquenchable desire to be free people living in peace, passing on no less than we inherited.
These things have a foundation of strong stone, hard as a diamond and can be relied on when many works and plans of men have long failed.

There is much to place faith in beside the false, the feeble, the transient, the duplicitous, the cowardly, the bought, and the sold. My heart and faith will be fixed on what is in the still quiet places in each of us. If a person embodies that greatness and serves the people well then I will give them trust and celebrate them, if not then they prove faithless stewards and dishonor the trust they are given.

47. No, I refer to the spirit and attributes that led to many of us gaining the vote
and a set of ideals that started thousands of years ago that have been built on and inclusiveness that has expanded on as time has worn on.

I'm am certainly saying that our faith is in our people and ideals not any raggedy ass con-artists or calculating cowards and when they prove to be either, both, or worse then they are unworthy stewards of the sacred responsibility of being the first among equals and the unearned vote given away spits in the eye of a long, long road of sacrifice and hard won advancements.

48. Nice that you have hope, trouble is a lot of people don't have hope
Talk to the soldier who is returned from war, with his head a mess and no prospects in sight.

Talk to the family kicked to the curb with no place to sleep except in a shelter or on a street.

Talk to the folks in Iraq and Afghanistan, who tremble with fear at every loud noise.

Talk to the teachers who just lost their job, left wondering why their President hates them so.

Talk to the person who can't find a job, not just for the past month, but the past year or more.

Talk to the unemployed looking at the end of their benefits looming on the horizon.

Talk to the anti-war folks who see no end after nine years and counting.

Talk to those who believe in civil liberties, as we watch them continue to go down the drain.

Talk to the elderly as they watch with fear, as the fat cats in DC discuss cutting their SS and Medicare.

Talk to these people, and many millions more. You will find that hope is a commodity that is in short supply. Obama talked a good game of hope during his presidential campaign, but the follow through has been less than spectacular. Nice that you still have hope, but for many hope has died and once again been replaced by cynicism as another Democratic president has once again governed as a moderate 'Pug, putting corporations and money ahead of ordinary people.

Gil Scott-Heron's analysis still rings true, almost thirty years later. How sad a statement is that.

"As Wall Street goes, so goes the nation. And here's a look at the closing numbers – racism's up, human rights are down, peace is shaky, war items are hot - the House claims all ties. Jobs are down, money is scarce – and common sense is at an all-time low with heavy trading."

Hope, hope is nowhere in that equation.
