WHOOPSIE! Darrell Issa may have some explaining to do regarding financial ethics!
Well, here's something that you don't often see in a San Diego paper.

It seems that Issa has at least a little explaining to do, given that he's appointed himself chief watchdog of all things distracting and irrelevant.

According to the article in a local San Diego paper, Darrell Issa, through his company, DEI LLC, purchased foreclosure property at a $3M discount from East West Bank. Didn't East West receive TARP funding? Anyhoo, it seems that the bank dropped the price by $3M for Issa and discouraged another offer that was closer to the asking price. This is according to the complaint filed by the second lender, Ventura County Business Bank.

"This sort of real-estate deal may be familiar to San Diegans. In 2005, Randall “Duke” Cunningham, a former member of Congress representing San Diego County, was caught in a bribery scandal that centered around property bought and sold at abnormal prices."

There are other conflict of interest tidbits, as well.

"CREW would like Issa to explain some of his investments in Goldman Sachs; by the end of 2009, Issa had between $5.1 million and $15.5 million invested in the embattled financial giant’s High Yield Fund. After the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a fraud lawsuit against Goldman Sachs in April 2010, Issa launched an investigation, alleging that the SEC may have timed the lawsuit to bolster the Democrats’ push for financial reform.

“The Goldman Sachs thing is the most troubling,” CREW’s Melanie Sloan says. “That he recently invested money with Goldman Sachs and then is making statements protective of Goldman Sachs suggests his views may be informed more by his own financial holdings than Goldman Sachs’ actions.”"

4. Yes, he's slime. He has done absolutely zero for his constituents and seems to go out
of his way to make life harder for them.

It's so sad to watch him manipulate his low info constituents. If only they'd understand how much he works against their best interests.

6. No, there's no real competition. The media in San Diego is very
conservative and rarely reports anything but puppies and rainbows where Issa is concerned.

At his townhall last year, he whipped his "fans" into a sickening frenzy over czars, birth certificates, socialism, and other fun teabagger topics meant to distract. The hooting and hollering in that auditorium was so sad to watch. This is his MO. Distract, distract, distract. They fall for it every single time.

15. Sounds like a great deal for Darrell
Better gig than stealing cars too!

These self-serving people and their cynical teabag town halls. Because bogus birth certificate nonsense is so much more important than anything else going on in CA. Or are we still supposed to blame Gray Davis?

Thanks for the response, Mrs. Corleone.

7. And with an unusual name like Issa
and the fact that he is complaining about the Muslims, isn't there a Muslim company named Issa that went bankrupt not to long ago.Was it connected to him or is it a coincidence.

9. Issa is Arabic, from what I understand, and he's Lebanese, although
Bush had, on a couple of occasions, referred to Darrell as Puerto Rican or Costa Rican. I can't recall which. He has a fairly sizable Hispanic constituency, so I suppose this created some confusion during a time when Issa's Lebanese heritage did not help him politically.

I don't know of the company that went bankrupt or if Issa had any connection.

8. Mr. former car thief has a problem with criminal behavior?
Oh noes, who would have guessed?

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/06/25/ISSA.TMP

PS. no Democrat with a history like that would have lasted 5 minutes. With republicans, that sort of background is of course completely excusable

18. Holy shit!
This is the first i've heard of this. 3 TIMES he's been "busted" for car theft! And his brother was a car thief for years? Yikes. Wow. I'm at a loss here. Just another case of IOKIYAR i guess...

20. I had to look up IOKIYAR.
Yes, it would seem that way, especially since the media covers their a$$es.

I believe in one case, it was reported that Issa sold his car to a dealer and then reported it stolen in order to get an insurance payout. If the reporting was accurate, he attempted to commit insurance fraud.

So ironic that he now sits on the House Judiciary Committee.

24. What the heck are the voters in CA thinking -- and Issa was behind the Gov. Davis recall -- !!!
Come on . . . GOP and right wing are always looking for guys like this to do their

dirty work for them! From Nixon onward to Issa!!

Unbelievable -- !!

And, when Barbara Boxer brought up the issue - the GOP made her look bad!!

What was the story . . . "she had planted the news stories"!!!

25. A lot of CA folks are not thinking. Or, at least, they weren't.
The days of blissful ignorance seem to be coming to an end.

I was talking to a typical Glenn Becker last week and it was as if a light was turned on. This guy has been unemployed for a long time and his wife is a state employee subject to cuts. He seems to be going through some level of mourning over his party beliefs. Things are hard for him and his family, he's pissed and is seeing firsthand how his party has betrayed him.

I suspect this is the case all over the country.

This guy is also an Issa constituent. Pretty sure Issa's lost that family's support.

29. Proving again so well that right wing propaganda does work --
it creates an emotional response and short circuits thinking --

CA was once the home of liberalism and not that long ago --

The GOP have long been after them -- kind of like NYC and GOP attacks on them for their

liberalism -- Nixon started that idea of political revenge.

When I see someone like Schartzenegger become Governor, I am certainly questioning the

validity of our elections!

10. Don't make me vote when I'm angry. You won't like me when I'm angry!
Good evening,

We're mounting the campaign to elect Howard Katz for the 49th Congressional seat and replace Darrell Issa.

I got personally motivated to volunteer as Finance Director after I could no longer just sit around and seethe in anger at what I'm seeing.

My one vote isn't enough.

Howard's website is <http://www.hkatzforcongress.com />

As you can probably tell, I'm not that experienced.

But I do know I'm extremely passionate about making the change to help get things done.

We have 115 days for us to make the change.

Any help, suggestions, donations, volunteering,.... anything at all, please help us take Issa out of that role.

On behalf of Howard and the 49th District, thanks in advance.

Scott Thompson

11. Hi Scott.
Out of curiosity, has Howard Katz had any luck with the local media? I ask since Bob Hamilton (D) had a hard time getting the San Diego press to publish his interviews with them during the 2008 election. There wasn't much of a "free" press in that region then. Wondering if there's been much improvement.

27. Press Coverage
That's a real good question. I've only started helping so I don't have first hand knowledge of any difficulties.

I did hear that coverage on one event was substantially less than we'd hoped.

If that is an obstacle we'll face, I guess we'll have to find other avenues of getting exposure.

I was just looking at the Federal Election Commission database and saw that Congressman Issa has gotten over $300,000 from companies and PACS outside of CA. The majority of them are in Wash DC and Alexandira VA.

Whose interests is this Congressman looking out for?

Got any good tips for me?

28. He's definitely not taking care of the people and small businesses in his own
district.

The big defense contractors are concentrated in Alexandria, so it's safe to assume why he holds fundraisers there. He also seems to hold quite a few events in D.C. He's not exactly a man of the "people".

Media, both broadcast and print, are going to be a challenge, I think.

PM your email address to me.

Bachman, Boehner and Issa.

IMHO, Issa's looking at a VP spot come 2012. No way he's going to get one, but he's deluded that way.

I'd pick Bachmann. Hands down even though I can't stand Issa. She makes herself highly visible, and it would be quite a crash and burn.
