4. You would be surprised take Michigan for an example, until recently it was the highest unemployed |
|
state in the country and had been for a number of years yet time after time the nit wits elected cons to office. Then blamed the Dem's for not making the cons in control pass legislation that would help them. It boggles the mind at how many stupid people will vote against their own interests in the hopes that this time the golden trickle from the top will finally trickle on them. I've seen cars and trucks around the state bellowing smoke, rusted, dented and falling apart while the owner proudly drives it around with con bumper stickers or the latest right wing talking point bumper sticker, which is probably holding the damn car together. Oh yeah don't forget the American flag proudly flapping around that the owner duct taped on.

2. it can happen but not often .. I doubt 5% |
|
The amount of your unemployment is based on previous earning but caps out in Ca at (I think now) $450/week.
A number of years back I was on unemployment and was offered a job at a super market that, at 40 hours/week, would pay me $5/week more than I was getting in benefits. Working 40 hours/week for $5 sounded like a stupid idea so I didn't take the job.
Why would I agree to work 40 hours/week for $0.13/hour ? Most people aren't given the luxury of that decision but it does happen.
... and for anybody who complains (as people did at the time) about "living on the dole" you should remember that *you* paid for those unemployment benefits. It's taken out of your check every week with taxes - and the amount you pay in isn't capped like the money you can get back.

3. I've noticed that all the "unemployment reports" now include the references |
|
to "those who have given up looking for work" ...
a message which seemed to be missing throughout the Bush terms ...

5. We only need to look at the message the republicans are spreading |
|
about unemployment. They want those employed to vote for them. They want them to "think" unemployed people are lazy and don't want to work, why do you think Fox spews that 24/7? They are trying to make the republicans look good. You are 100% correct about how stupid can people be.
If we had a news media that told the truth, that drove it home that the republicans are the ones STILL causing chaos in this country we would be better off. But since the republican owned corporation runs the press the true story will never get out there. But it is up to the Democrats in office to hold press conferences as much as they can and try to get the message out there.

6. The GOP are looking forward. They think they may be in power |
|
after the midterm election. They know they cannot and will not do anything about jobs. They are using Job Losses against Democrats. They are pre-empting any chance of their being called to task over not creating jobs.
In the last 72 hours there has been a drumbeat of the message.
Yesterday on Hardball, an economist from Conservative Think Tank and one from Think Progress(?) explained:
The Republicans are putting out the following: There are jobs but people will not take them as long as Unemployment Insurance available. More than one Republican has emphasized this and not the "crazies". I think they are trying to break the news slowly. The jobs that are going to be available--are available. Without coming out and saying it--we will be lowering our standard of living. The Jobless had better take any job they can get and hopefully work their way up once again. Unemployment Insurance drags out the process and costs money. In other words, in the end they will have to take these jobs. This maybe as good as it gets for a while. By starting now, they hope to be able to avoid being called on to create jobs. Cut Taxes, Cut spending will hot hack it in this economy.
The Democratic Economist agreed that at a point Unemploymen Insurance can be misused. HOWEVER, in the past we never stopped paying this Insurance until the Jobless Rate fell to 7.2 %. We are almost at 10% unemployment. Way too many jobseekers to stop paying Unemployment Insurance. Not enough jobs available.
