'Would urge those interested to contact the White House --

-- to offer comments about or support for Ms. Sherrod.

I just sent an email note suggesting that consideration be made to reinstate her and to re-examine the policy by which she appeared to be so swiftly dismissed.

There are many thousands of us on this site. Were a good number to contact the White House asking for respectful reconsideration on behalf of Ms. Sherrod, I think it would likely have a very encouraging result.

It's my best guess that the White House staff will be up late this evening over pizzas and Chinese take-out fielding emails and calls, from DU members and others, most of those messages in favor of reinstating Ms. Sherrod.

2. Hi, katandmoon.
You're several steps ahead of me. We didn't get home until late and after rifling thru a few DU threads I finally got around to doing it.

The administration could grab this story and own tomorrow's news cycle by reinstating her late tonight or early tomorrow a.m.

24. An election cycle "war room" might not be a bad
idea for this White House...

Likely someone else has already suggested it and plans are probably underway.

In a FOX News environment, it would be a logical response to have one up and running 24-7.

6. Hi, gateley. Yes. I saw that, and am kind of waiting to
see what develops.

Between us two, I think Jenmito should be a Communications Director at the White House.

4. I wasn't that nice. I said they should not have listened
to Fox after what they did to the tape about ACORN. And if they didn't grow a spine I would dump the Democrats who listen to that crap.

8. Ha! I bet you weren't the only one who "wasn't that nice"!
How many times have you seen on DU somebody linking to a Fox story and they'll get a response: Sorry, but until it comes from a reliable source I don't believe it, I don't trust Fox. We're more wary than the administration!

In all fairness to Obama, Vilsack stressed that the order to 'fire' did not come from the WH, and I actually read that the WH wasn't aware of it until after the fact. Then Obama said he stood by Vilsack's decision (but they always have to say that). He could be covering for Obama or maybe Vilsack actually wanted to do it immediately so he could present it to Obama as a fait accompli.

Soooo... regardless of how it actually came down, they can NOT fall for this shit again! Obama needs to send down an ORDER that no action will be taken based on a report from Fox. Period.

80s now -- The Spooners -- who had words of praise for Sherrod when she helped them save their family farm.

That weighed an awful lot with me, and those older folks were just vibrating with the truth.

I'm hoping someone like say, the President, asks Tom Vilsack what the hell is going on in the Ag office.

13. They reminded me of people I met in North Carolina -- I lived in a small town
there for about 6 years until a couple of years ago. Coming from liberal Seattle, I didn't know what I was in for, but what impressed me the most was the GOODNESS of these people. Salt of the earth.

I'm so hoping this ends well for Sherrod. I actually have some compassion for the WH/and Vilsack -- hell, anybody who's under that tremendous political pressure, knowing whatever you do it will be criticized. I would like to think that they FELT they did the right thing, and more importantly, I really need to see them apologize and make this right. Follow the lead of the NAACP - they were very classy about it.

15. Agree. This is fixable and reputations can be
retrieved.

I'll probably count to 10 on Vilsack, I guess.

Agree also on the NAACP -- they're a class act, definitely.

from earlier (before they knew the entire story) or not. They will be blowing it big time if they don't do this right.

I'd put Rahm on the case and let him drive the knife home.

17. If you do the right thing, the honorable thing, you don't have to
worry about criticism. And when your adversaries have given you so much ammunition, so much racist history, you would be a fool NOT to the right thing.

I wonder whatever happened to honor and courage. It seems to have been replaced by Political Expediency no matter who is harmed.

23. Hi, AtomicKitten.
You bet, and all good wishes.

Ms. Sherrod seems like a damned decent soul to me -- exactly the kind of human being I'd want in public service.

And as many others here have indicated, she deserved better than she got.

Case closed. Now I hope Ms. Sherrod sues the bejeezus out of Breitbart/Faux News. Her damages are huge. I also hope that somebody in this administration steps up today with a mea culpa and offers to restore her career.

27. I'm responding now after Vilsack has publicly and
privately apologized to Ms. Sherrod, so I get to say to you that your instincts on this were right-on from the beginning.

All day before the announcement I kept thinking that Sherrod is the kind of person we should all want in public service jobs. She's evidently done a lot of good for a hell of a long time, and that still matters.

The Far Right bit the dust on this one, AtomicKitten. Let's keep holding their worthless feet to the fire!
