Media again shows their hypocrisy in attacking Obama administration on Sherrod fiasco |
|
Let me start by saying that the Administration blew it big time on this one. They allowed themselves to fall right into a trap and their kneejerk reaction deserves criticism.
However, that being said, I can't help but notice the rank hypocrisy of the mainstream news media who, after offering the briefest and most tepid if mea culpas about their own behavior, are piling on to the White House for caving in to right wing attacks.
Of course, the Administration likely would not have reacted this way if it were just a right wing attack. Their reaction was to what was about to become a mainstream media frenzy. THEY were about to start obsessing over and feasting on this story and the Administration clearly was trying to make the story go away.
Their hypocrisy is also apparent in their criticism of the Administration's swift action - these are the same people who until now beat up on the Administration for NOT being quick and decisive, accusing them of dawdling and dithering when they tried to take the time to get and do things right, who sneered at the President when he said he likes to know what he's talking about before he speaks about something. Now the media are trashing them for doing just what they've been demanding they do without uttering a peep indicating that MAYBE their insistence on swift, decisive action is a little simplistic and misguided and that, in fact, this debacle is a perfect example of why the Administration's usually measured approach is the wisest course.
No, instead, we have the press avoiding its own culpability and finger pointing at everyone but themselves.
I just hope that the Administration has learned an important lesson: that there is never any benefit to caving in to media pressure - since they'll never satisfy the beast, no matter what they do - and they must take the time to get it right.

1. When this Administration gives her a public apology and... |
|
...offers her job back, then we can talk.
But I agree, the corporate media in this country sucks.
