Vilsack, Sherrod, and the White House |
|
I just heard Vilsack's apology. As a side point he's a far better speaker than Gibbs.
He spoke very well and eloquently, I actually found him sincere. This is a horrible situation and I'm happy she's been offered another job. Onto the points made last night and today. Many here went from stating the Obama Admin is a failure or the problem to basically attacking Obama for causing this.
As stated by posters like phlesdef and sunsetdreams, it's clearly apparent that Obama had no connection to this woman's firing. I myself have likened the government to the way an large company or organization runs. When you are national you hire people to run or manage departments. These department heads are the ones doing the hiring or firing of the people. Rarely does the President, VP, or CEO know of the many hundreds of people who are fired and hired on a daily basis. Yet, many here make it seem as though Obama was supposed to know or be in the in the know. If that was the case then he would be the one doing the firing and hiring. However, Sherrod was hired and fired by Vilsack.
Shoot even in the apology Vilsack was asked by a reporter if Obama was aware of this press conference and information and Vilsack says no. He seems to have been given the authority to do that as well due to his place. I would assume this is what Admiral Thad Allen of the coast guard was given as well. Where they don't need to run a press conference by the President in order to have one.
There were a lot of reactions and a lot of blame placed everywhere. However, from what I can see most if not everyone has absolved the White House (excluding the low level liaison in HR who might have been aware of the hiring) except for DUers and the media (who seem to hunger to suck this dry).
I personally like the position he's given her. The Agricultural Department is fraught with racism so this position would help this woman. Plus from what I can see this has made FoxNoise even less credible than it normally is.

1. If she accepted his apology then I do. |
|
Not that Vilsack is a great Sec of Agriculture on anything but I am ready to move on. However, I am NOT ready to move on from what Breitbart and Faux News started.

4. It doesn't have a specific name. However... |
|
it deals with the cases of prejudice by race. Vilsack said currently he has hired an outside organization to overview basically all the cases---of which he said there are "TENS OF THOUSANDS" in which racial prejudice and bias has played a part. He wants her to head that department. He was asked if it was created for her or if it was a position always there. He didn't specifically answer that but he stated, "It's a position that needs to be filled." And he said he would not go into any greater detail than that since he wants to respect his promise and commitment to Ms. Sherrod by giving her the time to review the offer. I hope that helps.

3. You are calling me out vabarella, |
|
but in a great way. Thank you for your kind words, however I saw many DUers out there working hard to get that point across. I don't like to work on assumptions, I never have.
Thank you for your thoughtful post, I believe this afternoon/evening, this administration has handled this beautifully.
I also believe that Vilsack, was extremely sincere in his apology.

5. Agreed. I only call out people, when I say it in a good way. |
|
If not, I'd say, "some poster said..."

9. The President or the CEO in your example |
|
doesn't have time to deal with every personnel decision in a department, he has enough on his plate without that. I wish that they would have a policy that says not to trust anything that breaks only on Faux News, and to check the sources and make sure it isn't an edited clip of something. Add to that to find out when the original tape was from, in this case, from something that was 24 years ago and wasn't at all what was represented by the brief clip.
