Thank YOU, Melissa Harris-Lacewell |
|
One of the few people smart enough to talk about how the attacks on Ms Sherrod occur at the intersections of race AND gender, an intersection politicians have exploited from Reagan's "welfare queen" through Clinton's Sista Souldja, and now beyond.
Fuck, even David Frum, of all people, was talking sense: when republicons talk about not having support among African Americans and women, they can look at incidents like this and buy a clue.
This event really feels like it could be a turning point. If only we and our leaders understand and use it effectively.

2. Conservatives would have no support |
|
or almost no support if not for the wink and nodding towards racism, sexism and homophobia.
On economic issues alone they could never convince over 50% of white voters to support them.
The good thing is hat the prejudiced are dying off way after than they are being born.

I first saw her on Rachel -- and have appreciated her keen intellect every single time.

9. I really like Melissa Harris-Lacewell |
|
She also pointed out the movie "Crash", and the fact that the movie got an Acadamy Award for dipicting the brutal rape of a black woman by a white police officer and then a powerful professional black woman denying some kind of assistance to a white family. She was saying that much of what we are saying is institutionalized with movies like Crash.
I always like when she is on Rachel or Keith.
