Shirley Sherrod: I want to speak to Obama
Shirley Sherrod said she'd like President Barack Obama to reach out to her, not for an apology but for a conversation about what life is like where "the rubber meets the road."

"He hasn’t lived the kind of life I've lived," she said on CNN's morning show.

"I know he's African-American or part African-American, and many of us are not totally black in our genes. I'm one of them. But when you get down to where the rubber meets the road, I think he needs to understand a little more of what life is like at that level."

3. Part of the problems with discussions on race is assuming that everyone from one race

has had all the same sorts of experiences. They don't. But I think they should speak...they both have been victims of racism.

9. Their heads would explode? I don't think they are capable of talking about or
reporting about something complicated like experiences growing up with racism. Both Sherrod and President Obama have grown up differently, in different circumstances. She grew up on a farm in the South. He grew up in Hawaii, in Indonesia, and later moved to New York for college. He was also of mixed race and she was not. But racism is racism and it cuts into a person, into their very core, in way that no one who has never experienced it can feel. I did have a very good friend in college who was black. There were some ugly incidents that I experienced with him. It STILL sticks with me to this day and it is just something I will never forget and something I, as a white person, never experienced. Two people who have been through that sort of thing can have a lot to share.

6. I don't appreciate the above comment.

She has no idea about his life struggles and I personally would never assume to think how someone has lived their lives. I've had many people on here and other places assume based on my interests that I'm such rich priss when in fact it's something completely different. I don't mind her requesting to speak to the President. That's fine, it's the rest that's rubbing me the wrong way. And let me add this bit, I don't think that every Black person has had the same life experience but her statement, to me, or how I read it, implies that in some way her life was harder than his and this is an iffy conversation to have.

10. And now she has...
.... this whole "he's not black enough" is something he was dealing with LONG before most of us even knew who he was. Bobby Rush tried to use it to take him down (lol and of course HE DID take him down.)

Ah well .... she got her phone call and a job offer .... let her get a book deal out of it (she deserves as much after the week she's been through) let her get some money off of that since she prob. cant get it off of Breitbart of the press.

personally, I'm ready for the next uproar.

11. Isn't that the right wing's meme?
The President isn't black enough?

I understand what she is trying to say, yet I know how fauxnews is going to twist it.

12. i really get tired of anyone who talks about "how black" someone is
anyone with any degree of color faces the same challenges of prejudice and bigotry here in America. I think that sister needs to rethink that comment.
