My e-mail from Michelle Obama regarding Barack's birthday --a protest opportunity

Every year, our family tries to come up with a fun way to wish Barack a happy birthday.

And this August 4th, when he turns 49, I have something new in mind.

This has been a big -- and hectic -- year for him. After signing the Affordable Care Act and Wall Street reform into law -- and completing his first year as president -- I think it's safe to say we will remember it for a long time.

And I know full well how much he credits this movement, and the work of supporters like you, for the change that we've accomplished.

So I'm putting together a birthday card that I would like you to sign. Together with other Organizing for America supporters -- and me, Malia, Sasha, and Bo -- we'll wish him a happy birthday and let him know that we're ready to take on the year ahead alongside him.

Will you wish Barack a happy birthday with me?

I plan to reply, to wish our president a happy birthday, and to include a sincere desire for him to end the madness in Afghanistan and Iraq. Anyone else?

I mean seriously ... did you initially think that you got a personal message from Michelle Obama and then had that perception blown to pieces when you saw the request for donations???

8. The President also sends, and receives, Christmas cards.

Oh ... and the white house does have staff who sorts the Christmas cards they receive, and the emails, and the letters. They categorize them, and sort them. They even read the mail that comes to the first pets.

Some letters, from crazies go to the FBI ... I suspect that the Birthday card comments that Obama receives will include plenty from nuts hoping this is his last birthday.

Every administration looks for ways to communicate to their supporters. This is one of them.

I had fun with it ... said happy birthday, and predicted that the GOP will claim that he should not be celebrating a birthday during such difficult economic times. And that my Birthday wish is that he not invite them to his party and end all bipartisan outreach to them.
