FYI for when Repubs try to wrap themselves in JFK's tax cutting mantle.
JFK lowered Ike's top income-tax rate from 91% to 70%.

Reagan came in and lowered Kennedy's top income-tax rate from 70% to 28% & we've seen how fabulous that has worked out for the deficit & middle class.

Just a little perspective after hearing the Republican on Hardball today shout "Kennedy", "Kennedy", "Kennedy".

1. The Tax Rate was almost 90% ---they were still paying the WWII
War Tax. They needed a tax break. Kennedy was not cutting
taxes to be cutting taxes.

Please remind the Republicans that Businesses in that period
of time stepped up to the plate and helped the Government.

No one had gotten around to getting rid of the War Tax.

When you are paying those high rates, you need cuts to
stimulate business activity.

Today our rates are not that high. You can reach a point
of no return. Cut rates and business does not respond.
Right now Business has adjusted to the NEW NORMAL. People
with no jobs or jobs that pay less than the last job, a person
had. All the tax cuts in the world, and they are not going
to hire if they are not predicting a large influx of customers.

Yes Pres. Kennedy cut taxes but he was starting from a very
high rate. The GOP quote only one sentence, not the context.

2. Exactly. It annoys the hell out of me when I hear Republicans do it. They act like he was a
supply-sider.

3. My answer to them is always the same:
"I think a return to the 74% top rate proposed by Kennedy is a great idea!"

5. Thanks. If all the Democratic pundits started responding that way, we'd hear the last of this tired
talking point the RW trots out at every election.

6. I think your idea is brilliant.
Can't wait to smack my first republican with it.

7. Please let me know how that goes when you do.
For me, it's always either instant silence or they start sputtering around about how they're talking about the 'principle' of cutting taxes. Either way, they know that BS will never work on me again. :)
