What can Feingold do to get back in the race? |
|
Assuming he is behind as much as the polls say? This is a shock to many Democrats. Why is Feingold behind?
I read a story a few weeks ago where Johnson made a point to call or talk to at least 100 people per day. That creates a lot of good feelings when a candidate takes the time to talk to you personally.
But, Feingold needs to connect with the voters in a similar way in the next 3 weeks. He needs to remind the voters that Johnson is a likeable guy but his ideas are not as attractive. The people of Wisconsin needs someone that will stand up for their interests, not the interests of the radical Republican Party.
Unfortunately, Mr Johnson will vote with his Party and that will not be good for Wisconsin. Before voters pull the lever, they need to see the person behind the mask.
This is a message that Feingold needs to get out in the next couple of weeks, in my opinion.

3. I live here and I highly doubt he calls 100 people per day--there just isn't time in a campaign |
|
to do that--unless he just says "hi, how are ya" and hangs up. Let's say he did and you spend five minutes on the phone--at 100 people that is 500 minutes or over four hours per day!? and then there will be the people who want to keep yacking. What will happen if he's rude and has to get off--will he hang up on them and possibly lose their vote. Whoever said that he does that is writing a fairy tale.

voters he's only down by 3. He probably shouldn't have turned down the offer by the SDCC to help him by airing ads--since Johnson is outspending him on the air 3-1, but at least he will go down sticking up for his priciples.

20. The thing about Feingold is that he never has been the most popular politician in WI |
|
Oh, he may be in Madison but actually Herb Kohl is much more popular in the state than Feingold. I'm not saying that it's right because philosophically I'm closer to Feingold, but it's a fact supported by polls and past election results. The fact is that we have an unpopular dem governor and the state is losing jobs (manufacturing jobs) left and right. Feingold is running for a fourth term and it's a dangerous time to do so because he is an incumbent. Gaylord Nelson ran for a fourth in 1980 (another bad dem year) and lost, and he was as great a senator and progressive as Feingold. Top that out by the fact that Johnson doesn't come across on TV as a nut--unlike some republicans--and that he is out spending Feingold 3-1 on TV along with Feingold not creating many good ads until recently and it's going to be a deep hole to dig out of. He can only hope that more voters turn out than the polls expect who will vote for him.

8. Feingold won the debate. I think he is back already, Kentuck. |
|
I watched the debate last night and I saw Russ Feingold being the champion he is: articulate, brilliant and caring about the working class.
It was a game changer.
Watch Russ' numbers rise these last weeks.

9. Polls now have Feingold and Johnson within the margin of error |
|
Feingold is surging and has done well in the past two debates.
It's indeed SICK that Wisconsin voters would rather have their votes bought by a multi-millionnaire who would turn Wisconsin into a redneck Bible Belt State if he was elected.
My hope and guess is that Russ will squeak by this time. GOTV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

21. What polls are you looking at? |
|
Feingold has been behind (and not within the MOE) pretty consistently for a month now.
Throw out the one rasmussen poll showing a 12-point gap, and we've been behind 6-8 points there for something like eight consecutive polls over the last month.

12. He was never really out of the race. |
|
His problem is that he spent two years proving how independent he is from Obama. Now he realizes that he needs the support of those voters who showed up in large numbers to support Obama. He should have thought about that earlier. Blanche Lincoln is having the same problem.
