The Buzz: Crist offered Meek a cross and asked him to 'pray' about whether to stay in the race
OCTOBER 29, 2010

Kendrick, it's Charlie. Hey, buddy, think you can do me a favor?

On Friday, Kendrick Meek played a voice mail message for an Associated Press reporter that he said was left by Charlie Crist on his cell phone shortly before 5 a.m. Monday. In it, Crist said he missed Meek's call from the previous evening, and that he was going to be at a campaign event where both would be speaking later that day.

"Anyway I'll call you later this morning and see if we can work out a time to get together," Crist said in the recording. "Just you and me. Take care, buddy. Appreciate it."

When they met up, Meek said Crist asked him to consider dropping out of the race. "I responded absolutely not, that he should probably consider doing it," Meek said.

If that weren't bizarre enough. Meek told the Wall Street Journal that Crist offered him a cross and asked him to "pray" about whether to stay in the race. The venue: a American Israel Public Affairs Committee gathering Monday in Hollywood.

"I was shocked when he did it," Meek told the Wall Street Journal in an interview late Friday. "I told him to keep the cross and that I carry my Christianity in my heart."

These gentlemen need to salvage what is left of their careers and move on. Meek and Crist will live better than anybody who is reading this post could ever dream of why Floridians will have to live Marco Rubio.

6. Nah... they just want Rubio to lose.
And don't realize how very many of them are willing to sell their soul to do so.

14. so did Obama sell his soul when he supported Arlen Specter??
No, he was just trying to make it easier to accomplish legislation.

Quit being so short-sighted.

if Alex Sink loses in governor's race, in which she
has an excellent chance of winning. You would rather
have a very slim chance at Crist defeating Rubio and make sure
Sink loses. Very nice logic.

11. It's A Shame DUERS Are Attacking Other DUERS
It's a shame DUERS are attacking other DUERS over a candidate who refused to campaign against the most reactionary Republican members of Congress because they were his pals, ergo:

Meek also has told national party leaders that he won't play a role in the races. He and his mother, former Rep. Carrie Meek, are close to Martinez, the former Hialeah mayor. But Meek said the ties between his family and the Diaz-Balarts are deeper.

9. That's unfair. In this climate, Rubio will win going away. He had massive numbers in primary.

26. I'm curious how an election outcome can be the fault of a candidate
Ultimately it's up to the voters.

Maybe they feel it's less important to defeat Rubio than to vote for the candidate they actually prefer.

27. Charlie is 20 points behind Rubio
If Meek quits the race lot of his AA voters will stay home
and Rubio still wins by 10. And Alex Sink loses governor race.

19. Voting for Meek.
I'm an independent. I would like the new senator to be Meek. I was happy that Meek won the democratic primary. I'm annoyed that Republican Governor Charlie Crist decided to join the race for senate. He knows that people will vote for him because he has wide recognition. Everyone knows he is the governor. If he stayed out of this race, Meek would be the winner. Crist is just taking votes away from Meek, and that would help no one but Rubio. Obviously that was the intent.
I am disappointed in any self-proclaimed Democrat who votes for Crist. They should leave the party if they aren't loyal.

"Every time I try to get out they drag me back in."

I am so tired of this race but I can't let this chestnut go by

"They should leave the party if they aren't loyal."

Should Kendrick Meek and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz have left the party after failing to support three Democratic candidates that were running against their Republican palS?

"This time around, Wasserman Schultz and Meek say their relationships with the Republican incumbents, Reps. Lincoln Diaz-Balart and his brother Mario, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, leave them little choice but to sit out the three races."

I can't wait for this circus to be over.
