The misuse of polling by Republicans will continue after E-day.
The RW has done an effective job in creating the impression that the Democrats have no chance next Tuesday. They have turned the polling industry into a partisan weapon to mold public opinion. The second phase of their strategy will unfold next Wednesday when we surprise the pundits with wins in areas that had already been ceded to the GOP by the corporate media. At that point the cry of voter fraud will be heard at full pitch. Faux and its many imitators will conclude that the only way we could have won was through cheating.
A key rallying point against Clinton was to proclaim his election illegitimate. They have used the same tactic against President Obama. The suggestion that our elected officials are in office through illegal means is not only reprehensible but extremely dangerous in a situation where the Republican national apparatus has thrown its support to a candidate who believes the second amendment was drafted to secure the right of the people to engage in the violent overthrow of the government.

4. Couple things..
You know, many of your points we heard in 2008, only then it was from the other side. Believe it or not, we actually do lose elections without some underhanded nefarious dealings going on. In fact, considering it's the midterms with a Democratic president, it would be unusual if we didn't lose seats.

5. Who isn't expecting us to lose seats?
Edited on Sat Oct-30-10 09:18 AM by pstokely
That's inevitable. The question is can we keep the house and not lose too much in the Senate?

6. It's about damage control
I'm expecting us to lose the House. The Senate is the big question. Like most people, I'm worried there too. In fact, considering the circumstances, I'd consider it somewhat of a victory if we only lose the one chamber.

7. Please refresh my memory.
When in 2008 did we have a pollster like Rasmussen churning out robo polls proclaiming the inevitability of a Democratic win? When in 2008 did we broadcast lies about wide spread voter fraud in Republican precincts? When in 2008 did we have a propaganda network like Faux ready to spew misrepresentations about their campaigns? And when in 2008 did we have access to unlimited, secret caches of money to lie about the other guys. We can stick our head in the sand and think that 2010 is like other elections with the shoe being on the other foot but we would be dead wrong. This is a sea change in how the RW molds public opinion to their will by the partisanation of news and polls.

10. Okay..
from what I can tell, the last Rasmussen tracking poll that had McCain in the lead was from 8/1-8/3. A full 3 months before the election. After that it was all Obama, except for 9/15-9/17 in which they had the race tied.

Here look for yourself. Maybe you can find something to bolster your argument. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html#polls

As for Faux News, they've been pushing out BS for a while now. It's hardly anything new.

self fulfulling prophecy. We don't have to lose seats. The Republicans held Congress in 2002. They don't just give up because the media tells them to, and their extreme wing does not constantly criticize them for not turning the country into a "Christian Nation" in half a Presidential term.

the party in power actually gaining seats. 2002, that you've already mentioned, and 1934. No we don't HAVE to lose seats, but I think those numbers speak for themselves.

I'm sick of the stupid polls deciding the election before it occurs.
