Am I Wrong About This?
I was merely a lurker back then, but it seems to me that right up to the 2008 general, many people here at DU were predicting doom and gloom -- that Obama was going to lose and we'd be stuck with McCain, etc. Yet Obama won in a landslide.

Now the doom and gloomers are back, predicting the loss of the House and the Senate.

I wasn't worried about it then, I'm not worried about it now. We'll lose seats, yes -- the party in power always does in a midterm -- but we will not relinquish control of Congress.

Feel free to come back here on Wednesday and tell me I was wrong. But I don't think I am.

5. Does that mean if we have a bad night on Tuesday
Does that mean if we have a bad night on Tuesday, we can say the polls were rigged, and move on?

11. But no one thought how big he would win
I expect the Repukes to have a good night, but maybe not good enough for control of the house. Won't be as good a night for the Repukes as the media wants it to be.

9. No, the polls showed Obama and Democrats winning in 2008..
Bush was hated. The Republicans were hated. The only question was how big our win would be.

Ofcourse the right wing crowd clung to hope and predicted a win - they have to do that.

Now we are being blamed, and while not hated any more than the Republicans - the public is clearly not happy and we are the party in power.

Ignoring the polls is silly.

10. Only in part. Very small part.
There were doom-and-gloomers convinced that a 10-point predicted victory in pre-election polls wouldn't be enough to swamp the Massive Infernal Republican Conspiracy to Subvert All Justice.

They came in several varieties, and while relatively few in number were fairly large in numbers of posting. It's easy to confuse 30 people all waving multiple signs with loudspeakers strapped to their faces with a crowd of 1000 that are merely indignant, esp. when you can't see the actual bodies all together in a single location.

Day after last general election I predicted that we'd lost at least one chamber of Congress. That constitutes losing control (even though I rather doubt the repubs will gain control). Why? Not because the ruling party loses seats at midterm, but because the American electorate has shown a decided preference for gridlock. Even if the repubs gain control of the Congress, that's fine; there'll still be gridlock.
