PSA: The Dems losing only one chamber of Congress does NOT equate to 1994. |
|
The parallels are disgusting, defeating, and a lazy heuristic that pundits and politicos use in order to spice up election coverage.
Thank you.

1. There really isn't much of a difference between losing only the House and both the House and Senate |
|
The only advantage is that Senate seats aren't as up as frequently so we want to hold as many as possible.
As far as legislation, the Republicans only need the House to gum up the works.

9. Except that now the GOP will be EXPECTED to do something... |
|
.... repeal "Obamacare" etc .... none of which they'll be able to do without the President and 50+ Dems on board.
Wont happen.
Either both parties will be able to work together to come up with something .... and the President will get the credit.
Or absolutely NOTHING will get done .... and the President will have a target of blame.

2. Also, remember that lousy Contract on America V2? |
|
Ya know, they dropped it out there about a month or so ago to general laughter? Seemed to me the same thing happened in 1994. Not much was said about it, not much good, certainly. When the GOP did get both houses suddenly the Contract was a big deal. :wtf:
Should they win either house tonight, look for them to trot out that worthless crap once again.
:puke:
thanks, nonetheless for your reminder.

4. We have to see what the actual results are before we can compare. |
|
It most certainly can be worse than '94 without losing the senate... IF their house gains are substantially larger... and IF the gubernatorial races break badly against us... and IF the state legislative races are worse than '94.
It could just as easily be much better than '94. Especially if their house majority is narrow enough that tea party extremism leads (whatever the republican version of the blue dogs is) to vote with us on some key issues... exacerbating an intra-party scuffle.

Pub House completely torpedoes Obama for 2 years.
There's no Pub voters who are calling for civility and bipartisanship.
They will be HAPPY if they shut down the gov't and start sending right wing bills to the Senate.

7. maybe this will wake these congressional douchebags up |
|
I personally think Obama's silence is a result of their lack of cooperation.
