Why Prop 19 Lost...Youth Voters Made up Only 9% of midterm electorate!!! |

Which is down from 2008. It was only going to pass with a turnout equal to that of 2008, and that was far from happening.

Pot advocates were split on this prop . Some feared it would decrease the legitimacy of medical use . Some feared the feds would crack down hard . Some feared a loss in profit by keeping it on the black market.

6. Quite a few people depend on the income from growing. |

I have many friends in Humboldt who are fine with it being illegal. In the so called "Emerald Triangle", the economy is fueled by pot growing. It's been that way for 30 years.

8. Actually, I think it was the growers and distributers - lots of money would be lost to them |

Like prohibition repeal, the ones hurt were primarily the bootleggers and their constituancy. And their influence to their customers was "it will make the cost of your weed go up if we have to add tax to it and regulate it..." Another heavy-hitter when it came to opposition was the prison industry. Why push to lose a large amount of non-violent workforce that you only have to pay $1.50 a day with no overhead for? The youth vote (18 - 22 year olds) would never be enough to legalize it anyway, even if they came out in force. Same as in the 1930's. Haele
