Maybe A Lot of Americans Don't Vote for Progressives Because No One Communicates Our Values to Them |
|
What people perceive of Liberals/Progressives, they get from the mainstream and right wing media. And no one in the Democratic party ever stands up and clearly states that we are Progressives and this is what we believe in. Our message is always couched and compromised so as to not offend independent voters or moderates. However, when you constantly couch your rhetoric, you leave a void because people don't really know what you stand for, and the conservative media is more than happy to fill in that void.
Case in point, a few weeks ago, I stated that the Democrats should take on the issue of offshoring jobs overseas head-on. At the very least, they should stand up against tax cuts for businesses that do so. That's a winning issues with the voters, and it pits the Republicans between their base of voters and their corporate benefactors. The Dems shied away from this issue for fear of looking like anti-business, and thus, scaring the independents.
And such timidity is what confuses voters. I'm on several other message boards regarding the IT industry, and there's a vast cross section of Americans. Guess what issue number one is with them? Outsourcing. These folks would line up at 6:00 am to vote for any candidate who took on this issue, Republican or Democrat. Yet, the Dems' message on this is muddled and confused. I cannot honestly post that voting for a Democrat will help stem the tide of outsourcing overseas.
Without a clear Progressive message, Democrats will lose every election from now on. If Democratic leaders do not want to carry the Progressive message to the voters, then the Democratic leaders will be removed, either by us or the voters.

Yes, there are a few truly Progressive Dem leaders, but not many. Not nearly as many to confront the Right Wing media machine.

"I stated that the Democrats should take on the issue of offshoring jobs overseas head-on. "
Did you miss the entire month of October when that was the very issue? It's likely you did. Rachel Maddow did a segment. Keith Olbermann too. Think Progress was on it.
Democrats from the President on down slammed the Chamber for it.
Also, did you miss that Democrats made an issue of Republicans blocking an increasing taxes on multi-national corporations that culminated in a passing a bill to do just that?

Read it again:

You listed, Rachel, Keith, and Think Progress. Two cable tv hosts and a website, and you honestly think that's enough to reach millions of Americans?
You also mentioned Democrats. Can you name them? Can you link me to videos wherein they went on mainstream media shows and made a huge argument about it?
Finally, and here's the proof, do non-political Americans really know that the Dems are against overseas offshoring?
