Democratic sources push "nonsensical" tax cut compromise

Sources: Compromise could temporarily extend all Bush tax cuts

By: CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash

Washington (CNN) - An emerging tax cut compromise could be to temporarily extend Bush-era tax cuts for all income levels, congressional sources in both parties told CNN Thursday.

Republican and Democratic sources say in this scenario - a short term extension across the board - both sides would be giving ground.

Democrats would compromise on their pledge to let tax cuts for the wealthy expire, and Republicans would give on their promise to make all tax cuts, including those for the wealthiest Americans, permanent.

On its face, the idea appears nonsensical, since Democrats and Republicans agree on permanently extending middle class tax cuts - for those making $250,000 or less.

1. WHAT A TOTAL CROCK OF SHIT. Dems are giving up EVERYTHING...
Republicans giving up NOTHING, because they'll just get their tax cuts for two more years, then we'll go through this same charade again -- DURING A MAJOR ELECTION YEAR. Democrats are serving up a huge campaign issue to the GOP on a silver - nay, on a solid gold platter. This either is a total pre-determined sham, or the Democrats are the stupidest people in Washington. Of course, it's probably more like a little of both.

2. Given that
Nancy Pelosi has rejected a compromise, "congressional sources" are likely blue dogs. They're not the smartest.

6. That's

7. Wanna bet $10 that the entire thing is extended temporarily?
Most likely scenario. The Republicans get what they want, and the Democrats keep their powder dry.

3. LMAO... Let me know when I should be surprised.
Yet another casandra moment upcoming for me.

The democrats will reach the following compromise:

The tax cuts will be extended for 2 years.

Thus, making it a campaign issue for the republicans in 2012.

9. No, no. Propose a compromise
that gives away the store.

Then surrender.

11. This will end up being the compromise...
Republicans really mostly want to avoid decoupling the tax cuts for the rich from the rest of the tax cuts.

Rather than fight over it, the Obama administration will likely just agree to extend all tax cuts. It will be 2 more years if they think they can win the fight in 2012, and 3 or more years if they'd rather not fight over this anymore.

Either way, this is your compromise.

12. "nonsensical" is a great word.
I like it, it makes so much sense. Democrats will compromise on extending Bush's tax cuts. Of course, on the bright side, our powder will stay dry.

The WH and Pelosi are on the same page on this issue, so I'll leave it to them.
