House to Vote on Extending Cuts for Middle Class Only |
|
http://politicalwire.com/archives/2010/11/18/house_to_vote_on_extending_cuts_for_middle_class_only.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PoliticalWire+%28Political+Wire%29November 18, 2010 House to Vote on Extending Cuts for Middle Class Only Greg Sargent reports that the House will definitely have an up-or-down vote on extending the Bush tax cuts for middle-class voters only. "The move indicates that House Dems are growing more resolved to draw a hard line on the Bush tax cuts, forcing Republicans to choose between supporting Obama's tax plan and opposing a tax cut for the middle class. However, the way forward still remains murky. Even if such a measure were to pass in the House, it's unclear whether the Senate will agree to such a vote, and the White House has not endorsed the approach."

I don't care if the WH has endorsed the approach - it's the RIGHT thing to do and they know it! Hell, that's what they were advocating from the beginning before politics reared its ugly head.
Do you know if the same percentage rule would apply that defeated the Emergency Unemployment Extension today?

I really do, but if the past in any indication, this is a half-hearted effort so they can say they tried. I want to be wrong, I don't relish our collapse as some seem to, but I haven't got a sense that there's any real passion behind this.

I gave my congressman an earful and got a sensible email in response. Maybe they're hearing footsteps.

7. The question that should be asked is: Why didn't they force this vote BEFORE the election? |

8. They didn't have the votes in the Senate and so the House didn't want to be left "hanging" again. nt |
