DLC Is KAPUT???? (Oh, And Harold Ford Is A Douche)
An interesting side note in this Kos story about what a douche Harld Ford is:

--snip--

So what does serial loser Harold have to say in Wall Street's favorite mag (Fortune) after recently making a fool out of himself with an exploratory Senate bid in New York and overseeing the final demise of the DLC? (Seriously, the DLC's website is offline. It looks like they're officially kaput.)

1. Probably because their work here is done.
They won. No need to stick around. Might as well ride off into the sunset to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

3. I meant the DLC...
Seems like their corporate interests-first, trickle down, supply side, "who can be stronger on defense/military issues" Republican lite approach to things has won out, even if the numbers don't bear that out. Nothing can get done without going through the conservadems first, so......looks and smells like a victory for them to me.

They're kaput because Ford is an idiot and he was running it into the ground. Did you read the article? He's a moron. They haven't "won" anything.

Obviously sarcasm eludes you. I really don't give a shit what Ford did or did not do, or whether or not they are "kaput" or not. My point is that whether they are active any more is irrelevant because they already did irrevocable damage to the Democratic party that will (if it's possible at all) take a long, long, time to repair.

When even the most "centrist", republican designed, pro-corporate, anti-middle class bills can just barely pass even with a Democratic majority the house and the senate, then as far as I'm concerned their influence has won.

You seem to think it's more of a tragedy that they are done, and that's fine.

Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 02:00 PM by Beetwasher
That made you think this? Perhaps you need a little tweak in your ability to comprehend things. I don't know if you read the article or not, maybe you did and it's your ability to comprehend that's lacking.

Yes, the DLC was just thrilled with CFPA and Elizabeth Warren. Yeah, they certainly won that battle...:eyes:

Yeah. Exactly my point. They're just fine and dandy with Warren where she is. We'll see how devastated they are with whichever former Wall Street lackey gets the permanent job.

You've posted an obnoxious opinion that is completely devoid of facts.

The fact is, the Corporate sector LOATHES the CFPA and Elizabeth Warren and did everything in their power to derail the legislation and her leadership of it. Dat's the facts Jack.

The DLC website links to Harold Ford's article in Politico urging compromise and cutting the corporate tax rate in half as well as extending all the Bush tax cuts for two years, keeping 2009 estate tax rate and a six months payroll tax holiday.

23. Corporatism: a government dedicated to protecting the largest employers from their employees and ..

... smaller rivals.

Why is that bad? Example, United States foreign policy in Latin America has always been to protect American business interests in the region. This is done primarily by working against pro-labor laws in the region, such as minimum wage increases. This creates labor competition that hurts American workers. It also gives American businesses that operate globally a distinct advantage over smaller American businesses that mostly operate at home.

This also increases anti-Americanism in Latin America creating a greater risk to our country as a whole.

So our Latin American foreign policy harms 99.44% of Americans. While undermining national security. Hence, it is a "bad thing".

(he's been salivating at "fixing" Social Security for 10+ years, btw.
You can read all his essays there. His testimony to the cat food commission was posted here on DU.
He's also in favor of extending the Bush Tax cuts for two more years)

Will Marshall at PPI

Been building up updated website from the old PPI site for over year.

http://www.ppionline.org/ppi_ci.cfm?knlgAreaID=87&subsecID=112&contentID=1100

Will Marshall is one of the founders of the New Democrat movement, which aims to steer the US Democratic Party toward a more centrist orientation. Since its founding in 1989, he has been president of the Progressive Policy Institute, a think tank affiliated with the Democratic Leadership Council.

He recently served on the board of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, an organization chaired by Joe Lieberman and John McCain designed to build bipartisan support for the invasion of Iraq. Marshall also signed, at the outset of the war, a letter issued by the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) expressing support for the invasion. Marshall signed a similar letter sent to President Bush put out by the Social Democrats USA on Feb. 25, 2003, just before the invasion. The SDUSA letter urged Bush to commit to "maintaining substantial U.S. military forces in Iraq for as long as may be required to ensure a stable, representative regime is in place and functioning."

He writes frequently on political and public policy matters, especially the "Politics of Ideas" column in Blueprint, the DLC's magazine. Notably, he is one of the co-authors of Progressive Internationalism: A Democratic National Security Strategy.

"DLC." "Third Way". "New Democrat". "Progressive"-- he and they can't even decide what they want to call themselves, because it would require something more than a generic logo. And would possibly risk pissing off the ever elusive RW leaning Independent voter bloc they always think is going to give them money and votes in every election -- if they can just remain sufficiently Republican lite. Centrist appeasers always to whom they perceive as the real power in the country - the GOP.
