Mr. President, where's the change?
Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 03:28 PM by UrbScotty
Dear Mr. President,

Three years ago, I was a proud supporter of yours.

Yes, I live in Michigan, and it looked like I wouldn't have a chance to vote for you in the primary.

Yet I still supported you, and was so glad you won the nomination. I was even more elated to see you win this nation's Presidency.

But now, I'm disappointed.

See, the turkey has been in the oven for an hour and a half - yet it's STILL not done!

When I voted for you, I thought I'd be getting some change. Instead, this turkey is talking about as long to cook as it always has!

Mr. President, why have you betrayed us?

Mr. President, where's the change?

Mr. President, either the turkey's done in the next 15 minutes... or I'm done supporting you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:sarcasm:

-----

Happy Thanksgiving, DU!

1. There's been plenty of change, obviously
Highest banker bonuses and corporate profits ever!

Obama's done a great job, the numbers prove it.

10. Of course you do. It's a weak attempt to ignore all of his accomplishments, and
Edited on Thu Nov-25-10 04:17 PM by jenmito
includes lies i.e.: "Backed off on his promise to close the prison at Guantanamo," along with things he SAID he was gonna do, i.e.: "Added 30,000 troops to Afghanistan." :eyes:

18. He said three Brigades not three Divisions
That is a very, very, very different ballgame.

I would not have been as tolerant of an escalation of this scope because it takes it from counter-terrorism to an invade, occupy, and "nation building" force.

His promise was met or exceeded with the very first troops he ordered in to the theater. I don't view as a yes/no, the type of effort and objective matter a whole lot.

I didn't vote for the current mission at all and neither did you.

Saying he backed off closing Gitmo is also not a lie. He certainly can close it, the excuse that Congress refused to fund a similar site in American territory. That is not a condition of closing the facility.

Obama can and should release those he cannot indict and put those on trial that he has a case to do so and allow the Justice system to do its job.
Congress has also passed some very dicey law to make this more difficult but Congress cannot pass laws that supersede the Constitution so the President is instructed to advise Congress something like 120 days before taking such action. I believe it is his duty to advise Congress and put the system into action.

Congress cannot dictate indefinite detention without trial nor force tribunals.

He can close the facility and certainly can order the troops to pack up and leave.

Not liking possible political blowback is not an excuse for continuing to violate our system of justice going back to the Magna Carta, at least.

Your granting a "pass" does not create a "lie".

3. Back 3 years ago it was who was going to win the presidency to clean this mess up.
Hillary or Obama? Obama is doing a great job cleaning up the mess. The mess that was going to bring along another great depression. Guess what? No great depression!!!

Thank you President Obama, have a happy turkey day!

17. You can TALK about cooking a turkey all day long,
but unless you apply some FIRE, it ain't never gonna cook.

at some point we have to recognize that we don't really stand for them."

21. There is a huge difference between CHANGE and just doing SOMETHING.
Nothing has CHANGED under Obama, nor has there been an ATTEMPT at CHANGE.

A few mega banks still control our financial stability and are able to gamble trillions of our dollars on secret transactions, with no real fear of losing.

The big current argument is weather the wealthy will pay 35 or 39% of their income over $1 million. Ooooo... that's some change!

For profit companies still control our access to health care and stand between individuals and our doctors.

Health care hasn't been discussed as a basic human right (as he talked about it in the campaign), but instead it is treated as a RESPONSIBILITY (which is how McCain characterized it!)

This isn't about a turkey not being done... this is about a complete lack of ATTEMPT at CHANGE and no plan for real CHANGE.

Obama hasn't promised or even discussed, lately, anything that would change the fundamental power structure in this country. We aren't on the path, we aren't even TALKING ABOUT getting on the path.

All of Obama's "accomplishments" are very easily undone by future administrations, because they didn't CHANGE anything.

FDR CHANGED something by establishing the basic concept of a government safety net. The country became comfortable with the idea that it was all our responsibility to take steps to take care of our neighbors. That there should be a safety net in place for people. This safety net was later expanded to include more and more people. THAT'S CHANGE.

23. first you say there has only been an attempt
Then later you claim there is lack of attempt.

Your definition of change may be impossible for a government set up like the US government to attain in the time you require.

At any rate, the POTUS is not a dictator, all he can do is try.

24. You misread.
Nothing has CHANGED under Obama, nor has there been an ATTEMPT at CHANGE.

It happened under FDR.. so obviously it CAN happen in a government set up like the US government.

It happened under Johnson with the civil rights act and medicare, so obviously it CAN happen in a government set up like the US government.

There has been NO ATTEMPT at change. NO DISCUSSION of change.

And not surprisingly... nothing has changed.

25. Real change requires work
FDR was implementing changes that were formerly not part of US
policy, President Obama is trying to change corporate based
policy since FDR, BIG difference. The next step is for
Americans to sacrifice low food costs to put American's local
farmers back in business. Are you game for sacrifice? Are
you game for fighting Congress and the Senate for term limits?
This is not a one man/woman battle, it's a war of corporate
interests (starting with stockholders) versus ? (fill in the
blank).
