Here are some comments from Republican forums on the tax deal:
Funny how no one is happy.

slickwillie2001 on December 7, 2010 at 11:42 AM

Liberals are never happy. For crying out loud in less than 2 years they nationalized health care, student loans, banking and GM. And they now have 3 years of unemployment benefits (which will turn into 4, 5, 20).

They are about 80% of the way to full Marxism.

What in the hell do they have to be sad about? Oh gee they extended tax rates for 2 years. Compared to what they’ve done to destroy capitalism that’s nothing.

angryed on December 7, 2010 at 11:53 AM

The GOP gave away too much, the deal stinks. And the Progessive Dems doth protest too much and I am always suspicious when they do. Their protests make O look like a centrist and that might be their goal for him to start winning back indies for 2012. They never do anything that is unscripted.

What bothers me is the extension of the unemployment payments. THREE YEARS???

There is only ONE reason for this and that is to prevent people from going bananas over illegal immigrants. As long as they are collecting a payment from Uncle Sam, they aren’t going to demand the jobs from their local businesses that the illegals are holding. The Democrats are using unemployment compensation to protect their illegal immigrant affinity group.

If Congress cuts off those unemployment checks, the illegals are in serious trouble.

I also believe that is why there is a big push for DREAM right now.

You got it. This is the glittering crux of the tax deal. Just wait and watch.

When the republicans roll on this, I’m finished. I’m out. It will be Palin or third party for me.
(This last one made me laugh. Sounds like so many on this board)

Wow, what a parallel we are to the right fringe.

5. The fringe is angry. The middle is just glad they can keep the heat on.
I think we get distracted that this place is the base. It is not. We have people suffering out there, they are not willing to stand on principle over food in their kids mouths.

We are playing with people's lives not chess pieces. That is what many on this board fail to remember.

8. I really can't understand DUers on that point ...
We claim compassion; yet we want PRESIDENT Obama to play political games with the unemployed's ability to eat ... oh I'm sorry, make that ... stand on principle and hope like hell the republicans blink.

We claim to be reality-based; yet we talk about what SHOULD HAVE been on the table; but wasn't.

We claim to be reality-based; yet we deny the simple fact that democrats in the House and Senate have demonstrated that they will not stand with our president.

Be mad folks ... But be mad at the right folks. And just to be plain about it, we should not be mad at the folks that risk your rage to benefit the most vulnerable amongst us.

9. You and Pisces have touched upon the irony of this entire brouhaha.
What is even more telling about this current trend is that the naysayers sound more Republican than the Republicans themselves!

That's why I believe that there is a lot more going on here than just a mere "disagreement" here. This is a time in which a lot of folks are showing their true colors.

but it is to people supposedly more true to left principles than me. How about that.

3. this comment is astounding to me:
What bothers me is the extension of the unemployment payments. THREE YEARS???

What kind of freakin' subhuman would find saving people from utter despair an offense? I'll bet this cretinous prick has the audacity - and irony - to call himself a Christian. Jesus would throw his selfish Neanderthal ass out of the temple.

7. because of the rightwing meme that people are refusing work
and collecting unemployment because they are lazy. Seriously! As if anyone would want to jump through the unemployment hoops for a third of their normal pay to get money that expires instead of having an actual job.

13. I would love to see a breakdown by political affiliation of unemployment
That would probably shut up those wingers that are complaining that "illegals" are collecting the benefits. Of course, they can't seem to get their talking point straight on that one... If "illegals" are collecting unemployment, they certainly aren't "taking our jobs." If they're really concerned about "illegals" taking our jobs, they need to look to India and not Mexico. Indians are getting a LOT of well-paying jobs, whether here in the states or abroad.

12. I am very very very very unhappy with this compromise.
I wanted to make the repukes suffer the consequences of their stubbornness but again....we let 'em win.

Oh, and btw, methinks that Jesus would have taken it upon himself to feed his neighbor, not Caesar.

24. They are delusional
If they think Obama is a marxist.

I totally understand what Obama is doing and why he thinks it's a good idea.

I think maybe it's a good idea in the short run but it's screwed us in the long run.

Politically I doubt he gets 1 vote from any republican or independant whose unemployment he extended. They will just continue to bitch about the deficit.

BUT- It's 2010. I'm not willing to blindly support everything that Obama does like y'all are, but even though I think he's screwing up right now, he's got 2 more years before I write him off. I think he's just really strugglng with his inexperience at operating at this high of a level. Prior to this everything came easy for him as a senator and he didn't really have to be that political.

If this stuff turns the economy around and brings a democratic majority again in 2012 I'll say he knew more than a lot of us did. Also maybe in the next 2 years he will find his feet not look so weak with the more experience he will have plus the criticisim from the left.

Probably the brightest spot for me in all this mess is that the media DOES seem to be reporting the criticism the left has of it. I think one reason the country has tended to the right is the voices and criticisim on the left never gets heard. Maybe this deal will be for the left like the Health Care Bill was for the Tea Party and allow liberals and progressives to get a larger voice and then Obama will actually have a more democratic agenda, less watered down by the rich in his second 2 years.
