Meanwhile, gop is quietly setting up corporatist, industry supporters to lead

House committees.

Wonder if Tea Party, Palin, Fox, dem leaders, Obama, Pelosi, etc will comment on whether or not these guys will be doing the work of the people or of industry. Tom Delay, Dick Cheney, George Bush would be proud of these appointees. What exactly is the lesson they said they learned from the disastrous Bush administration?

There is not only political ground to be gained here, but it would be a service to the public and to RW supporters to have this discussion

...Rep Hal Rogers will be Appropriations Committee chair. He is nicknamed Prince of Pork for his abuse of earmarking and getting pet projects for his state

...Fred Upton will be Energy and Commerce Committee chair (narrowly beating BP apologist and ranking member Joe Barton who remains on the committee). He will oppose greenhouse gas regulation and net neutrality. His LCV rating is 44 which among republicans is astronomic. Barton and Upton will oppose regulation of extremely harmful fracturing processing for natural gas. Barton is in the Grover Norquist school of government and his League of Conservation Voters rating is 0%.

...Ed Whitfield will be chair of the energy and environment subcommittee. The list of his anti-choice, anti-stem cell, pro energy industry, anti-environment votes is long and extreme. His League of Conservation Voters rating is 13%.

...Ed Hall will be the Science and Technology chair. He considers climate change unproven and has a 0% rating with League of Conservation Voters, and frighteningly is considered better than Rohrbacher, also on the committee for the gop.

...The ranking gop member on the oversight committee, Braun, considers climate change a hoax.

All told, 67 members of congress have a 0% or single digit rating from League of Conservation Voters. Think this represents mainstream thinking? Or does it represent energy and polluter interests? All these guys should be kept a mile away from positions of environmental power.

We should keep updating committee chair appointments and expose who they are working for.

4. I bet, as more and more appointees come to light, that we're going to see
many objectionable, unreasonable people in charge of House committees and subcommittees. They will either be ideological nuts, industry shills, or both. BOTH of those types are important for fundraising and getting out the vote.

5. Updates, more chairs...
...Paul Ryan will chair the Budget Committee. Of course....he created the nonsensical republican budget alternatives that privatized social security and cut medicare

...Peter King will be Homeland Security Chair. Google him or search DU...the guy has more hardline nutty statements than nearly all the others combined.

...Darrell Issa, as we've heard, will be oversight and government reform chair. He has called president Obama the most corrupt president in modern times and vowed to hold hearings and investigations on a variety of topics against him, including the Sestak job offer.

...chair of financial services is Spencer Bachus. He vowed to bring Elizabeth Warren to hearings every week to "explain herself" and disrupt the workings of the new Consumer Protection Bureau.

Thanks TPM for additional info.

6. Update: Tim Griffen is appointed to the House Judiciary Committee. Tim Griffin
and Gonzales were forced to quit their Bush administration jobs due to scandal.

I wish MSM would talk about all the questionable appointments and chairmanship positions...this is a major story for the teabaggers...how their elected officials are actually behaving.

7. Update per Huffpo: Virginia Foxx is chair of the higher education
subcommittee. "The conservative Foxx was the only committee member to vote against the Higher Education Reauthorization Act, and she has been a big supporter of for-profit colleges. In fact, she plans to oppose the current attempts to regulate these exploitive institutions, and of course, she has received large campaign contributions from the for-private schools themselves."

This is in the mold of appointing (not electing) Bolton to UN ambassador or James Watt as interior secretary. Or Brown as Fema head. They are out to prove that government will not serve the people.
