William Daley is a good part of the reason why the USA is now a two-class society
Edited on Thu Jan-06-11 03:16 PM by brentspeak
The rich...and everybody else.

Snarky -- but accurate -- short summary of Daley's career of merging Wall Street with Big Government to help destroy the middle class:

http://gawker.com/5726695/meet-bill-daley-barack-obamas-new-chief-of-staff?skyline=true&s=i

* When he was Bill Clinton's Commerce Secretary, he was the point man on the North American Free Trade Agreement, which gave Mexicans all of our jobs.
* He has spent seven years as a senior executive at JP Morgan Chase, the largest of those damn Wall Street banks.
* He http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/23/AR2009122302439.html">publicly chided Democrats for pursuing what he considered a radical leftist health care reform bill, the same one that we on Planet Earth call "Obama's moderate Republican health care reform bill that Mitt Romney invented."
* He lobbied against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that was created in last year's financial regulatory reform law.
* He "led the Chamber of Commerce's effort to loosen the post-Enron regulations on the accounting and auditing professions."
* He's on the board of Third Way, a group of rich centrist banker Democrats who are Republicans.

9. It will be his job to carry out Obama's policies. He won't make policies on his own.
He was chosen for his ability to work within the system in Washington. His own personal view of issues will be subservient to want Obama wants. So I have no problem with his choice.

But, if was different at all, he would never ever let the likes of William Daley serve in his administration.

Obama isn't controlling these people. He is working for them.

12. Al Gore, Howard Dean, John Kerry ... all these guys like him
I frankly don't give a rat's ass what his personal politics are (and most of what is listed is not necessarily his personal politics but the jobs, such as selling NAFTA, that his bosses gave him). He's known as a low-key guy who gets shit done for other people. He's a fixer. That's what the COS's job is. It's not a policy position. It's about deciding who gets on the President's schedule and pushing the President's agenda.

Chill.

Edited on Thu Jan-06-11 07:33 PM by brentspeak
Meanwhile, the facts remain that Daley was a) responsible for implementing NAFTA (millions of lost jobs); b) lobbying D.C. to get Wall St. bailed-out (biggest highway robbery in American political history); c) helping manage Chase while it was (and still is) illegally foreclosing on homeowners (what's the problem with that???); d) successfully lobbying to water-down the Financial Reform bill (more bailouts in the future! another destroyed economy in the future!); e) helped defeat the public option while employed by the Chamber of Commerce.

Are those your kind of "low key" politics?

Thanks for reminding me. Point man on NAFTA, opposed the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and was an integral part of trying to loosen regulations that were enacted to prevent corporate pillaging of America.
Nice. Appears Obama found just the "RIGHT"(wing) person to appease the Chamber of Commerce and those business executives that he met with recently. :puke:

38. I dunno...he may be more conservative than even the Republicans in the cabinet
Over the past decade or so criminals like Gates have become "moderate", "grown up", and "pragmatic".

I don't care who you are, there is not much sense that pretending Obama and Solis (who is clearly not an insider and clearly is a token along the ideological spectrum) bring balance to a group not much more liberal than a Reagan or Poppy administration. Of course it was the same with Clinton but Obama's group seems a little less ideologically diverse.

The "Team of Rivals" all believe about the same shit, the competition was more who was selling the company line best not a clash in principles, goals, or worldview.
