Has Obama issued a statement on the military's torturing of Bradley Manning?
Edited on Wed Feb-09-11 05:44 PM by Cali_Democrat
He is the commander in chief after all and it's his military that's doing the torturing.

This would be the perfect time to take the moral high ground and stand up for human rights.

3. Maybe he's
waiting for actual evidence that Manning is being tortured. I mean, the 9/11 forum is filled with speculation about issues that he hasn't addressed.

4. Or maybe, being a lawyer, he understands that he ought to provide
Mr. Manning an unbiased jury--it would not be appropriate for the Executive to comment on the case against the accused.

But I also liked your explanation.

8. Lets wait and see what the Chinese do to those named in the documents...
.... those whom the US had been protecting who's identities will be revealed as soon as China hacks into Assange's account. (If they haven't already)

Then we'll talk about human rights violations.

Conditions are not mutually exclusive. There is no reason to wait for your hypothetical to ask about Manning's treatment.

10. It's Bob Woodward's reporting....
.... not my speculation (see the "Chris Matthews Show" 2/6.)

To worry about 1 man's rights as a prisoner when his alleged crime puts the lives of others at risk boggles my very tiny mind.

his guilt is mere speculation.

14. Obama appears to care very little about the rights of prisoners.
He could back legislation to prohibit cruel treatment of the sort that Manning has been subjected to. He could do a lot to prevent future abuses of executive power. He should have supported amending the War Crimes Act so that, e.g., waterboarding is indisputably criminal. I am disappointed.

18. Manning signed up to an organ that waterboards.
They also do sleep deprivation, forced marches, and chemical attacks.

It's called training.

He is the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. It is difficult to believe that he is unaware of PFC Manning's situation. Perhaps he does not believe that the way manning is being held is torture.

Do you got it? Why would he issue a statement on something you can't even prove?
