Sen. Rand Paul will oppose Patriot Act renewal |
|
http://paul.senate.gov/record.cfm?id=331014&http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSDBswx90Cs&feature=player_embeddedStunning speech in the video, I don't care what party he's in, he's right on this issue. The Pauls have always been against the unPatriot Act, BTW.

3. This is a major issue that will effect us all |
|
We must line up both sides to get as much support as possible to oppose re-authorization of this assault on civil liberties.
Oh, and I'd rather post a video of as Democratic Senator saying he would oppose it, but there aren't any I could find (this year, not Fiendgold 9 years ago).

19. Among liberals/dems, there should be nothing divisive about how the P.A. infringes our rights. |

27. Strange bedfellows, and all that.... |
|
Plus the problem with how the P.A. is portrayed, vs. the practical applications.
For example, the roving wiretap provision: If you wanted to get around legal, court-ordered, wiretaps, before the P.A., all you had to do was switch the phones you used every few days. By the time the paperwork went through to tap a new phone line, you could have already discarded or stop using it. (Think payphones, disposable cell phones, etc.)

Ron Paul was the most rabid critic of the Patriot Act in the House as soon as it was introduced. The Pauls have always been consistent on this.

18. Let it expire. Nothing will change, but it's a huge PR win. |
|
The "freedom fighters" can rally about beating "the man", and the exact same things will require a few more rubber stamps, but will still happen.
Before PATRIOT: TLA: "Let us see this?" Org: "Okay."
With PATRIOT: TLA: "Let us see this? We have shiny paperwork!" Org: "Okay."
After PATRIOT: TLA: "Let us see this?" Org: "Okay."

Do you need validation so much that you need to tell us that Rand Paul agree with you on something?

22. Be careful - Libertarianism is seductive |
|
There are two parts: the reasonable civil libertarian (little-l) side and the nutso capitalism-is-literally-God side. People get taken in by the first before they know about the second.
