I just need to vent ~ omg - right wing wackos are everywhere! re: Egypt
Two of them vs ME. I need a hug, a hot shower - something!!

This is the spin~
Them - Murbarak is stepping down because Obama told him to. Obama wants Egypt run by the Muslim Brotherhood.

Me - Obama wants him to step down because of all the protests in the streets.

Them - There is only 5% of the people protesting in the street. That is nothing.

Me - there has been killing. The people want Mubarak out, haven't you seen the protests? Obama didn't start this, he wants Mubarak to step down because of the people in the streets.

Them - no it's Obama that wants Murbarak out. He wants extreme Muslims to run Egypt.

Me - Why on earth would he want that? Israel is our ally, this could cause problems with the Mideast peace process.

Them - Obama shouldn't tell Murbarak to leave.

on and on until I finally said - Hopefully you are not getting your information from Glenn Beck, even neo-cons are saying Beck is not mentally stable. They responded with - We are informed. I just shook my head and walked away.

WHERE ARE THEY GETTING THIS???? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

3. You know where
Faux News.

Just save your sanity and don't engage these closed minded idiots. They don't want to know the truth because it takes them out of their tiny little comfort zones.

6. Ask them why they think Obama wants extreme Muslims to run Egypt.
Ask them how Obama would benefit from that.

They heard it on faux, so it must be true...

7. You need to wash your brain out with clorox now
And you also need to stab rusty needles into your eyes, and bang your head against the wall 10 times in a row without stopping.

If you're lucky then you might be able to forget that conversation.

11. Just tell them that faux news
is killing their brain cells and making them stupid. I find just making the assumption they watch faux is enough to makes them sputter with rage (which I enjoy).

12. "We are informed"????
No indication WHERE they got their information though. Hmmmm, why on earth did you let yourself get sucked into that conversation?

These people need to go back to watching reality television and avoid world events and politics.

13. I notice they didn't answer this question:
Me - Why on earth would he want that? Israel is our ally, this could cause problems with the Mideast peace process.

Them - Obama shouldn't tell Murbarak to leave.

So they had no answer. They just repeated a talking point. You win.

14. You showed great patience
There is so much misinformation out there - even among people who mean well and are on our side - which was not the case with the people you write of.

My daughter sent me this wonderful link that points out subtler points - http://sarthanapalos.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/a-guide-how-not-to-say-stupid-stuff-about-egypt/ that I thought you might like to read. What is interesting is the obvious frustration that writer feels for comments that are innocent compared to the comments you post from the right.

15. Michael Savage said Obama started this
Which is kind of funny on DU - to think the far right gives him credit (though to them it is not credit) for starting it all.

It's a secret Obama plot to overthrow the government in Egypt. Right wing talking point #34,554

16. They Were Interviewing Protesters...
in Egypt.

I heard one of them say "We are ready to die for our cause."

Then...in the background, you heard another say "Give me liberty or give me death."

Tell them that.
