1. there is something very disturbing apparent in that relationship...
That interview is revealing... I think father and son had a very uncomfortable relationship, to put it mildly, in sort of the "with friends like him, who needs enemies" kind of way.

COmmon sense appraisal of the interviews.

Funny how you say you are so tired of all threads related to Manning, but can't stop from posting on every damned one of them. :eyes:

8. Are you shitting me?! Always, there will be someone to find a way to disregard the truth.
Now we have to create this excuse that something is wrong with their relationship? Are you that privy to their lives to even dare to suggest a thing. You're suggesting his father has no sense of humanity to sort of gloss over things that could be hurting his son. Unbelievable. I'd leave the conjecture out of it, if I were you.

5. Where are the accounts of torture?
If I didn't read anything outside of DU, I'd think this person was getting the "Midnight Express" treatment.

7. Oh Shit!!! Oh Shit!!! Maybe Manning's father is an Obama-bot?! An apologist maybe?!
Edited on Mon Mar-14-11 02:30 AM by vaberella
Straight from the horses mouth! OMG---where the hell did you get this one from obamafourmore. I was dealing with people who claimed he was never on suicide watch and brought out the paperwork I saw on line. Now e have the Dad affirming what the Pentagon and Obama is saying?! For Goddamned shame.

I guess Obama is nothing like Bush. I don't think they'd go as far as bashing Manning's father. But who knows.

10. After watching this video....is it just me or did the dad sort of paint the Manning as unpatriotic?
Like, the dad was like---I don't know if he was patriotic. It was through "arm-twisting" that I got him to join the army. What?

12. If his father also has a mitiary background
It's very possible his son's behavior has embarassed him. Manning broke his military oath - whether or not people think he was right to is not the question. He broke military law and is now suffering the consequences. Only Manning can say whether it was worth it.

19. Yes. His father was in the military. You might be right.
The dad gave the impression he doesn't want to believe the fact that his son could have done what he did. Or he said, he doesn't want to.

20. It's like some of you are disappointed his not being waterboarded. I tried telling some of you it
sounded like he was being treated like a maximum security inmate. Those guys are always naked. Either for searchers or fear that they'll hang themselves w/ their own clothes.

24. Well he was put on suicide watch.
Joking about suicide doesn't fly in Quantico, apparently. Which I would hope it doesn't. And although he was humiliated when made to strip, he was later given clothing (assuming paper) that can't be used in those sorts of conditions.

31. Many of these people would cry torture...
...if Bradley Manning doesn't get a sugary snack with his nightly meal.

As you said, there is precisely zero evidence of torture. His father said he looks fine. I've seen nothing that rises to the level of torture in any serious description of his conditions. In fact, it looks to me like his situation is positively dreamy compared to many of the hundreds of thousands of people in maximum security prisons around the world - including some prisons right here in the US.

Given the choice, I feel confident most people would prefer solitary in a Virginia Marine Corp brig than general lockup in San Quentin or someplace similar.
