Obama's appointee, Alice Rivlin, is the co-architect of the GOP's plan to rid Medicare/Medicaid
The Ryan-Rivlin plan: Alice Rivlin, former Clinton-appointed Director of the Office of Management and Budget (as well as Vice Chair of the Fed), was one of Obama's hand-picked appointees for his National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform (i.e., the Catfood Commission).

3. Small wonder Koch donated to the DLC. Anything to purge the nation of
classic Democrats. Once Obama appointed Kaine head of the DNC, the process of many years was complete.

We no longer have a true two-party system, only several wings of the Republican Party, regardless of which party label people use.

Most here are in the socially moderate, somewhat more sane wing.

Then, there's a worse wing, whose members tend to self identify as Republicans (at least the more honest ones do). There's even "worser," who tend to self identify as conservatives.

And even "worserer," who who tend to self identify as Tea Party, making the Sons of Liberty spin in their graves. And then Libertarians. And then, some smaller groups.

And, within each group, you have your basic nutters.

B/c you find the catfood commission to be bad, then this person Obama picked is bad. And for those who said they aren't surprised---are Obama's Elizabeth Warren and his Supreme Court Justices or Holder all that bad?! Jesus. You people don't make sense. And when did Wiki become a reasonable choice. Even your the liberal bloggers have been found to be wrong. But wiki is far more reliable. Not that it matters ether way.

was appointed by President Lyndon Johnson as Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare from 1968 to 1969. In 1971 she authored Systematic Thinking for Social Action.

She was the first director of the newly established Congressional Budget Office during 1975–83, where she was a persistent and vociferous critic of Reaganomics as head of the CBO. In 1983, she won a MacArthur Foundation "genius" award.'

Create Jobs Not Deficits

'Drastically cutting spending right now, as some Republicans advocate, would destroy jobs. But continued borrowing at projected rates will lead to a debt crisis, soaring interest rates and a plummeting dollar that could precipitate a deeper recession and destroy even more jobs. The president must get this danger across.

Mr. Obama must also expose the fallacy that rising debt can be controlled by cutting spending alone. True, we must reduce low-priority discretionary spending, both defense and domestic; slow the projected growth of Medicare and Medicaid; and restore Social Security to fiscal soundness. But we also need to care for an aging population and invest in the skills, research and modern infrastructure that power economic growth.

To pay those bills we will need more revenues. The president should rally both parties around serious tax reform that slashes most tax exclusions and deductions, lowers rates for most people and raises more money.'

10. My guess is they will adopt the voucher system as proposed by the GOP.
I think the DLC New Dems want that every bit as much as the GOP, but they'll let the GOP carry the weight on this issue with the public.

15. It is better for all if Medicare survives
in the long run instead of going bankrupt. When that happens,
more elderly will die and suffer. Medicare can not survive very long
as presently structured.

14. CBO - Preliminary Analysis of Rivlin-Ryan Health Care Proposal
http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/119xx/doc11966/11-17-Rivlin-Ryan_Preliminary_Analysis.pdf

""Congressman Ryan and his staff recently provided specifications for a proposal that would
substantially change federal payments under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Although an
extensive analysis of that proposal is not feasible in the time available, CBO has conducted a
preliminary analysis of its major provisions—the results of which are summarized here.

Key Features of the Proposal
MEDICARE

People who turn 65 in 2021 or later years would not enroll in the current Medicare program
but instead would receive a voucher with which to purchase private health insurance..."
