Over the past year I bookmarked several posts declaring that Obama would not run in 2012 |
|
including one that declared that he would make an announcement to that effect by May 2011. I thought about re-posting them, but they just seem pathetic now, so I'm deleting them. Its time to be reality based and pull together. Because the alternative is too dangerous. See, e.g., Wisconsin.

4. Unfortunately the President can't vote on legislation. |
|
But the Democratic congress did end torture, enact health care reform and financial reform, end DADT, pass the START treaty. Along with many, many other positive progressive actions that are good for the people. The positives outweigh the things left undone by a very large margin.

(If they did, I really want to know about it. That would be great.)

11. And if the President was Hugo Chavez, I'm sure he'd have done all that and more. |

But law by executive fiat is not available to him.

3. Instead he will run and keep the country moving forward. |
|
The teapublican house will stop any meaningful advances, but the senate will stop the teapubs from destroying the country. 4 more years is what we need, along with strong majorities in the house and senate. It can happen.

12. We didn't get that because the Democratic Senators were not all aligned behind it. |
|
When you have Democrats that are blue dogs then we won't have strong support. And it didn't help when there was always a threat of a filibuster.

6. I bet Pat Caddell and Douglas Schoen (aka Fox News "Democratic" tools) |
|
must be heartbroken. For those who didn't catch it, they basically delivered an editorial last December(?) stating that Obama should refuse to seek a second term because he has been too polarizing and that the Repubs would gladly work with him if they didn't have to worry about running against in him in 2012. :wtf: ever!
:eyes:

9. Yup. And he's got a whole crop of new voters who weren't eligible in '08. |
|
I heard some of them on the radio this morning. They can't wait to vote next year. I think that's why his numbers remain consistently high with the 18-29 demo.

14. Ralph Nader is reality based |
|
he knows what's up - and he knows Americans are too stupid to step outside the Dem/Repub pro-corporate monopoly that is force fed them as if it were an actual choice!
Want to see the mature responses one gets when bringing up "Nader was right" ways of thought? - just look at the replies i'm going to get for this post. I'll let them speak for themselves.
**For the record - Obama will run, and win. Just like Nixon did on his second term, and Reagan on his. Oh what company he will be in. Very fitting in many ways.

15. Let me be the first to respond. Maturely |
|
If Ralph Nader understands thats he has no chance of winning the Democratic nomination then he is indeed "reality based." If he thinks that there would be no difference between an Obama administration and, say, a Huckabee or Gingrich administration (to name just two of the possibilities), or that Obama deserved to be placed in the company of Reagan or Nixon, then, no, he's not reality based.

16. Johnson was up and running before he made his "shock" announcement |
|
It was even after the New Hampshire primary. Not saying Obama will decide not to run, but his announcement today really means nothing. He could hand it off to Hillary for "health issues" or whatever if it looked like a 41 state blowout was on the way.

19. just the baseless speculation about a 41 state blowout |
|
Of course Obama could drop out for any number of reasons. There probably is even as a scenario under which I get the nomination if we want to engage in baseless speculation. But the posts that I bookmarked didn't forecast that Obama would get in and get out. They predicted he would never get it. They were pathetic at the time and rather than embarass those DUers who revealed themselves to be utterly clueless as political prognosticators, I decided to delete their posts and urge that we come together -- including those that were so certain that he wouldn't run -- to support his campaign.

20. So you just wanted to let us know |
|
that for months on end you've been keeping track of opinions, on the internet, that you think are wrong, in anticipation of the day you'd be able to whip them out and gloat, and that *they're* pathetic? Okay then. Don't see any issues there.

22. see, there's this feature on DU called "bookmarking" |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 05:55 PM by onenote
and DUers regularly use it to save posts that they think might be worth revisiting some time in the future. It really doesn't require one to spend months keeping track of opinions. Just a simple click to take advantage of a feature here on DU. You're relatively new here, so maybe you didn't know about it. Maybe you shouuld book mark this thread.
BTW, I'm curious how you would describe a post that declared unequivocally that Obama would not be running and even gave the date on which the President would announce that fact. I think pathetic is a pretty good description of it.
