The Ryan Plan Should Be a Gift |
|
Seriously. In the very week Obama kicks off his re-election campaign, Ryan hands him his themes on a silver platter. SO WHERE THE F%&$ IS THE WHITE HOUSE? This is the easiest home run ever. Obama needs to be out in front of the cameras, saying the following:
"Like all of Washington, I have been reading with interest about Rep. Ryan's budget plan. I have no doubt it is a serious plan. And I have no doubt that it reveals the great distance between the Democratic and Republican parties on questions not only of the budget but of government and of a just society.
"There will be time in the coming weeks to delve into details, but the big picture is already clear.
"It is clear now that while we believe that a basic function of government is to provide a safety net for society's elderly, its children, and its poor -- the Republican party, apparently, does not.
"It is clear now that while we believe that the wealthiest citizens in the wealthiest country in the history of the world should pay their fair share to ensure the common good of all Americans -- the Republican party, apparently, does not.
"It is clear now that while we believe that lowering corporate taxes while raising taxes on America's poor and working classes is not just economically wrong but morally wrong -- the Republican party, apparently, does not.
"Senator Ryan is serious. But he is wrong."
How hard is that? Jesus, can anybody in that freaking White House actually communicate? Never mind, I've answered my own question.

1. What time did they unveil the budget? 30 minutes ago? |
|
I think Obama will probably make a statement this afternoon.
I hope Pelosi and Reid and Congressional Dems start getting out pretty soon. There is a question of coverage, Republicans will be given unlimited airtime by the corporate TV media.

4. The Ryan proposal came out on Sunday |
|
I hope you are right, that the white house has a strong response to this today. If they don't I think the only conclusion we can come to is that they are for many of these cuts.

3. Because they need a budget |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 10:10 AM by jeff47
Dissing the Ryan plan would harm the negotiations on the FY2011 budget. We need a FY2011 budget to avoid a government shutdown starting Friday.
The problem with cowardice is it comes back to bite you in the ass at the worst possible times. Good thing the blue dogs didn't want to pass a budget back in September!

7. Saw Ryan referred to as a "root canal Republican" in one article. |
|
That ought to be a good label to use for him.

8. I for one will not be waiting for the White House to say anything..... |
|
cause that's not how real politics works. We have to say something.... since whatever the WH says will be muted by the media, as they are too busy giving Ryan a hand job at the moment.
So jesus, can anyone of us actually communicate? Or do we need dear leader to always lead the way?
How weak are we?

9. The White House already has said something |
|
and it doesn't deviate far from what the OP is suggesting. I'm not sure if the point of objection is that it wasn't exactly like what the OP proposed, if it's because Obama failed to make it 3 weeks before Ryan released the proposal, or if it's that the OP couldn't be bothered to actually pay attention to what the White House is really saying.
Why are we weak? Because we're too lazy to step outside our simple-minded ideological solipsism and deal with facts.

11. AP is calling the GOP plan a "revamp" of Medicare and Medicaid |
|
The complete destruction of something is now considered a "revamp?" I agree, WTF is the White House telling it the way it is? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110406/ap_on_re_us/us_republican_budget
