Warfare or Health Care?
House Republican leaders unveiled their 2012 budget proposal this week, slashing health care across the board while increasing military spending. 1
That’s right -- the GOP wants to slash Medicare and Medicaid payments and eliminate the new health care law, while giving the Pentagon even more money. Their slogan should be “Warfare Not Health Care”.
If Congress is serious about tightening our collective belt, the Pentagon would be the best place to start. Over half of the money Congress controls goes directly into the Pentagon’s pocket, and that doesn't even count the money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Tell Congress not to gut programs we desperately need, like Medicare, while spending more on war and weapons, which we do not need.
We can’t afford to cut vital programs for the poor and for seniors just to keep the dollars flowing to the Pentagon. Let Congress know that if it is serious about cutting the budget, it needs to reduce Pentagon spending first.
