My daughter's husband is French. her kids with him will be American, but she also plans to actually give birth in France, so that if anything happens to her, they will also be French citizens and have access to French health care.

Unlike the US, France requires that citizens be born on French soil.

A baby whose parents are not American must be born here to be American, but a baby who has an American parent--and only one is needed--is an American, even if he is born on Mars!
