If Obama wants to raise $1 billion for his 2012 campaign... |
|
...tonight's brief speech was not a good start.
Last fall fall we were told by the Republicans how necessary it was to extend tax cuts for the rich, with no concern for the amount of money these tax cuts cost. The Republicans then successfully blackmailed Obama into extending these tax cuts which have created zero jobs.
Following this, the discussion, once again led by the Republicans, immediately boomeranged onto the debt. The debate was capped tonight when Obama gave a brief speech that would've made Frank Luntz proud at the GOP frames that were used throughout the discussion.
Am I really supposed to open my wallet to support this? Yes, it's less painful when compared to a hypothetical Bachmann 2012, but as a Democrat I would like to hear my Democratic President sounding like a Democrat. I do not want to hear from my President talk as if he's in the nonsensical Fox News alternate reality which refuses to examine where our recent deficit problems have extended from.
The Republicans are gleeful about keeping our economy as bad as possible for their own political aspirations, and the Democrats with Obama have often played along while acting as if they simply had no other choice but to give in. If Obama wants my money, I need to see less moderation and capitulation to people in the other political party who are out to destroy our country and ultimately want to lower the living standards of the middle class down to third world levels.

"Following this, the discussion, once again led by the Republicans, immediately boomeranged onto the debt."
The brief speech is what did it?
What about the weeks, months and years focusing on reducing the debt?
A speech at the end of a budget debate to reduce the debt is about the debt and that's surprising?

Republicans ran up a huge bill with tax cuts and wars without a second thought about it.
Democratic president comes in. Birth certificate, death panels, Guantanamo, etc. November 2010.
Democratic president extends tax cuts he vigorously campaigned against. He said he had no choice because he had to do whatever he could to support the nation's unemployed. There was no serious talk about debt or deficit in this discussion.
Immediately after these tax cuts are passed, the faux-deficit hawk Republicans move the talk to the debt and deficit. Democrats act as if they kinda put up a fight by saving Planned Parenthood. Obama then comes on the telly and tells us how great this is using all sorts of Republican language.
I'm not surprised, I'm beyond disappointed. I keep waiting for my side to stand up for something, and instead I keep seeing Republicans steamrolling over us.
Not a great start to Obama 2012, to say the least.

Boehner was in a cornerThis deal does nothing for him and the nuts are unhappy. "If the specifics are confirmed, I’ll call upon Speaker Boehner to resign his post." http://amerpundit.com/2011/04/08/confirmed-deal-reached-on-budget/:rofl:

6. The nuts will be unhappy as long as there's a functioning government |
|
I will not judge my own feelings on an issue as a function of the unhappiness of the nutjob segment.
I don't really care if Boner is in a corner or soaring like Superman around the earth. My opinion is shaped by the end result of these decisions.

7. "The nuts will be unhappy as long as there's a functioning government"? |

And you think they're happy with deal that doesn't give them what they wanted, primarily a government shutdown?

They are irrational and live in a separate universe generated by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and brain damage.

the House is full of them, and they each have a vote in Congress.
In fact, they control the House.

10. Teaparty in the House is 60 of 435 |

So is 14% now a majority? That's even worse than these filibusters that have been plaguing the Senate.
